Question:
Help, I have a stabbing pain in my side for the past couple of weeks!!!

Please help. I am 5 weeks post op and for the past couple of weeks I have had this stabbing pain in my stomach to the left of my belly button(me looking down). It is not directly under an incision. When it first started coincidentally I saw my surgeon for a check up around 3 weeks post op and he felt my stomach and made me cough at incision and said it was from the trochars and should go away. It is getting worse. Especially when i bend or try to get up!! It stabs like a knife!! No where else do I even hurt!! Should I call him again and ask what is up? Or just wait it out. I have an appointment with him on the 10th. Also lots of tingling in my feet and hands sometimes. Anyone had that? Please help!!!!    — aishabilal (posted on December 4, 2003)

If your in that much pain i would call your doc back and see what is up. Could be a twisted intestine or maybe a kidney stone or a hernia. I haven't experienced what your going thru but if i were i think i would not wait and call the doc.

Are you seriously crazy? or what?! Call your doctor immediately. I just dont understand people who ask medical advice of non-professionals....You need medical help, do NOT be afraid to seek it. Do NOT wait for your scheduled appointment.

I too am 5 weeks post-op and started having what sounds like the exact same kind of pain a week ago. Mine is 4 or 5 inches up from my belly button and about 2 inches to the right of my incision sight. I was afraid it might be a hernia and everyone kept telling me I should call my surgeon. So I called and the nurse told me it is a common complaint. She said to take it easy and try warm compresses and the pain medication the surgeon had prescribed at my post-op visit. I am hoping she is right. But until I go back to see him on the 23rd I am still going to be a bit worried.
