Question:
Anyone 5'10, at goal weight with pictures? Doctors are afraid losing to much to quick

My doctor and dietician are afraid that I am loosing to much to quick, so I am really interested at what I might look like when I reach my goal weight. The doctor and dietician set my goal at 165 lbs. What was yours? Did you stay at goal, or stay above, or loose more then expected? They think that I will probably reach my goal by April, and will have too look at measures to keep me from loosing more. So I am curious as to what others my height are weighing in at, and how they look. Thanks for any help.    — Mini Gadget (posted on January 29, 2004)

Not sure if this will help, but at 165 you will still have a BMI of like 23+...which, is well in the normal range. My surgeon's office says that they don't worry about someone until they get to a BMI of 19, or under...which, would allow you to get to 135ish. I'm assuming that your doctor took into account that you didn't even have 100 pounds to lose and will continue to monitor your progress. You might find that you do need to break the rules to keep from getting too thin...but, I guess I wouldn't worry about it quite yet, the weight loss will slow down as time goes by. Good luck to you!

Hi Bridget. I am 5'10 and started out at 306#. I have lost 130-132# down to 174-176. I am pretty much at my personal goal. My doctor says at this point it is where I feel comfortable. I wanted to reach either a size 12 or 175, whichever came first, happily they came at the same time. Plus, my body is still redistributing weight. If I lose a few more pounds, I'm not gonna complain! I am almost 11 months out. I had some pictures taken at christmas and would be glad to show you if you will send me your email address. I am getting comments like "you are so thin" and "you're gonna blow away". I see a difference of course, but apparently not as big as everyone else sees. Plus, being this tall helps alot! I wish you all the luck in the world with your journey!

One thing you may want to try is going to www.myvirtualmodel.com. At this website you create create a model of yourself. Once your model is created, you can change the weight and see the physical changes. It will give you an idea of what you may end up looking like.

Hi Bridget, I am 5'10", started at 326 10 months ago and am down to 208. My surgeon's goal is 146, which I personally feel is unatainable and would make me look too thin. I've recently joined Weight Watchers with my husband, and according to their charts, I should weigh about 165, which I think would be great. When I started this whole thing, I told myself that I would be satisfied to be comfortably below 200 pounds - like at 190 or so, and happy at 175. I'm going to try to get to 165 so that I can be a lifetime member of WW and not have to pay to go to meetings with my husband. I still wear XL tops, but I have wide shoulders - I can wear L tops, but they are snug in the shoulders and fit fine everywhere else. I wear size 18W pants, but they are very loose, and I am probably really a size 16W. I would be really happy if I wore a 14W or regular 16 pant. The nice thing about being tall is that we "wear" our weight fairly well, and co-workers are constantly amazed by how much I still weigh and that I wear 18W pants still. They say that I look about 40-60 pounds lighter and look like I wear a 12...and I don't think they are trying to be overly flattering, I trust that they are telling me the truth. The key would be to find a stranger to tell me what they thought, not having known me before...

Hi I am 5'11 almost 6'. I started at 354 and am now 176. In December I was about 180 and if you want to see my pics are in my album at Support & Advice For Weight Loss Surgery Group at Msn. Here is a link to page 2 of my photo album which has my most recent pictures. http://groups.msn.com/SupportAdviceforWeightLossSurgeryMessageBoard/carrielynnspics.msnw?Page=2 I think you will have to copy and paste. The last pictures the ones that say at Rockafeller Center and the family portrait with the black background are most recent. I weigh high 170's to low 180's in both. I am wearing a comfortable size 12 now.

WOW!!! isn't it funny how different we all are...this is a perfect illustration of how we can't compare ourselves to other people. I am 5'10.75"... right between the heights of the previous 2 posters...I weigh 205 and am wearing size 12...occasionally a size 10....I would love to lose 20 more pounds, but could never see myself weighing less than 180....I would look bad I think. We are all built differently...I have always tended on the muscular side...I come from a long line of ape people (inside joke)..our arms are long (fingers to my knees) and have huge feet (size 12)....I guess all that extra body weighs something. Moral of the story is please don't ever compare yourself to others...do what makes you feel good for YOU!! Your weight is just a number....much like an IQ...I know plenty of "geniuses" who are dumb as rocks - lol. Good luck and take Care.

I am 5'9 and 190lbs. My doctor gave me a goal of 180. I personally think this is too high, although most people think I am starting to look thin. I set my personal goal at 165lbs. I am currently in a size 10-12 up top and a size 14 in the bottoms. I have a ton of progress pictures on my profile. Keisha 3/12/03 316/191/160
