I am not 5 years post op. I am 2 1/2 years post op. I have kept my weight off and done well. In my support group we have a few who had theirs a few years before me. They have all kept their weight off and are doing remarkably well. We have I think 4 who has had babies since the surgery. They all look great and they have not gained any weight back. One is pregnant now 32 weeks and has only gained 7 pounds. I think that is great. I hope I helped a little. The ones I know have done very well indeed.

My husband and I have both had DISTAL gastric bypass (RNY). I'm 10/94, 5'1", 262 to 112 and holding. My husband is 10/95, 6'1", 285 to 175 and holding. We had a few little glitches in the beginning, but we're old, and our obesity was taking quite a toll. We look and feel WAY younger now than we did than. We are careful to follow our doc's instructions, so we have had very few problems of any kind. Your weight loss will depend on the type of surgery you have and the post-op nutrition plan you follow.

I am 21 years post-op, having had one of the first WLS...that they don't even do anymore...jejunoileal bypass (intestinal). Many folks have had problems with it but I've been blessed with relatively good health. I had a daughter about 7 years post-op...she was perfectly healthy and still is! I weighed about 270 when I had the surgery...lost down to about 175. I am 5'8" tall. I have gained some weight back over the past ten years or so. Presently, I am trying to lose about 40 pounds on a low-carb diet and with exercise.

I am pre-op..waiting for approval from medicaid. I have several friends who had wls surgery from 1990 to 1995. They have gained back some or most of their weight. I discussed this with my doctor because they did so well for the first 5 years and because I see others doing so well. He took a lot of time to explain to me the different changes in the procedure over the last decade. Each change and advancement was due to these brave pioneers who went before us. He explained to me the revisions available to my friends. Weight loss of any kind is still hard fought and hard won. Knowing the history of the procedures can be as important as knowing the procedure itself.

My mother had the jejunoileal bypass in 1975...10 years later they told her it had to be reversed...after having it reversed, she struggled with her weight for years. August 8, 2008 after spending 10 months in and out of the hospital...my mom died from liver failure....If she would have known this side effect she never would have had the surgery...My mother was only 62 years old...We will truly miss her...If I can help at least one person.....my mom would be very proud...
