Question:
Have you noticed you have funny little milestones?

I know we've all shared different milestones as we experience them and I always enjoy reading the triumphs of other WLS patients. I had a funny milestone today - not one that I'd necessarily share with the whole world (although that's what I'm doing here, isn't it?) but IT WAS a milestone nonetheless. I had gone to the bathroom at work and noticed I could actually see the water in the potty after I sat down. HOW HILARIOUS IS THAT??? I haven't done that in years. I just thought it might be fun to share milestones - particularly funny ones. Do you have a funny WLS milestone you can share with me? THANKS!    — [Anonymous] (posted on March 6, 2002)

Forget seeing the water in the toilet...I am pre-op and I would just love to be able to see my feet again (lol)! For me, that alone would be a great milestone : ) Thanks for posting such an interesting topic for us though. It's nice not to take things so seriously and to just have a good laugh.

Love the question! Here's my strange milestone...I think after I had lost about 35 lbs, my boobs finally stuck out farther than my stomach! I was so happy about that!

I saw daylight today between my arms (hanging straight down and touching hips) and my waist. How cool is that!

That some days my thighs don't touch... that always amazes me... or that I can BUTTON/ZIP up a pair of pants, let alone own a pair with a zipper & button!

That's great! This week I was sharing with a co-worker the fact that my name badge that I have to wear around my neck on a cord at work kept jingling on my keyboard. It was getting on my nerves so I finally took it off while I was keying. I couldn't figure out why it, all of a sudden, was becoming a problem when I realized it's because the badge was now dangling down to my belly button and not jutted way out by my boobs where it used to just sit. We both cracked up and agreed it was the small things in life that were so wonderful. -Kim open RNY 7/17 -93

I got a kick out of realizing that my tummy no longer rested against my steering wheel and this after I was able to move my seat up one notch. I actually have 4 or 5 inches to spare now. Open RNY 11/05/01.

Great! I agree that it's so nice to see stuff that makes life not so serious. My milestone was bra shopping - I found the way to measure correctly and in "real" sizes I'm actually a whole cup size bigger! I feel like I'm walking around with perky boobies now.........then sometimes I get shy and slouch.......but mostly I just laugh at myself and my new pride! Thanks for sharing!

I think the biggest milestone early on was the day I realized I could see my collar bones and count all my ribs without really pressing .... I have had many milestones in 16 months and minus 174 pounds.. The latest was realizing that I could sit and reach my hiney .. not have to stand and twist around to clean myself.. That was a big moment.. Also, going into the store and everything in plus size was too big.. had to go to Misses to get items.. boy , did that feel good... and it will happen over and over again for each of us..

hi...what a laugh... what finally made me reliase that i was on the way to being a "HOOCHY MAMA" was looking in the mirror with my knickers and bra on and being able to see a ray of light between my crutch and inside leg... i was so excited i ran in and showed my husband who was in bed ...i stood with my back to the window to emphasise the light that was shining through it.. i said look its like a ray of light shining out of a cave..he replied more like a dungeon...lol

So Funny!!!! Here goes mine!! I sat down on the toilet and both cheeks fit in the seat opening. I got up to see if Hubby had left the seat up. LOL. Another milestone I can cross my arms without them touching or resting on stomach or boobs. Lap RNY proximal 8-8-01 down 96 lbs.

Ha just two days ago I was walking across my room to get in the shower....I felt a gust of air between my legs and realized that it was due to my thighs not being pressed so tight together that air actually hit my privates....exhilarating!

I have some too!! I can lean over when I'm taking and bath a let the water out. I can't tie my shoes straight now. I can fit into a movie theater without my hips getting caught on the arms. I can sit in a restraunt booth and my stomach doesn't hit the table. I can cross my legs. My boobs actually stick out further than my stomach now. And, I now have only one chin. It's funny how you notice these things. The other day I went to put my purse on my shoulder and I could feel my collar bone. Isn't life great! :)

LOL I love these. One of mine is that I was lying on my side in bed, and the inside of my knees kept hurting. It took me a few minutes to figure out that it was because the bones of my knees were banging together and that "lovely" padding" wasn't there to stop it. That, and I have a lot more bones showing than I ever realized I even had!!! LOL Hugs, Donna in AL

Hi! I'm the original poster of this question and I just wanted to say THANK YOU -- THANK YOU -- THANK YOU for the funny, funny answers. I've been sitting at my desk chuckling under my breath at this. This journey is so important and often frustrating and it's just made my day to read all your milestones. Maybe folks will keep posting new ones for a while. I could relate to every single one!! You guys are wonderful!! Keep it up!

One day after I had lost about 80 pounds I looked down and met my c-section scar. I had never seen it in person--only in the mirror! I must say it didn't look any BETTER, tho! LOL

One more, my 10 year old leaned his head on my shoulder, and actually banged his head on my shoulder bone. He gave me a funny look and said Mom, You've never been hard there before!! LOL

I'm posting this anon, cause it's somewhat embarassing, but my husband bought a new boat, and had picked me up(EASILY) and stood me up in it. My umm, crotch was about level with his head(he was standing on the ground) and he was so turned on by being able to pick me up(ME TOO ) he went to sort of , umm, nibble on my crotch through my jeans, He banged his nose on my pubic bone, which HURT, and thought he had broken his nose. LMAOROTF!!!!!!!!!

Thank you!I have had my surgery postponed twice because my bloodsugar won't stay down below 200 and I have been getting very discouraged-thinking it will never happen. But your answers to this question made me lighten up and laugh out loud! I am still anxious to get the surgery done-but feel somewhat lighthearted about the wait! Thanks again!

lolol. i love this subject. i tell people about my milestones constantly. 2 weeks ago i threw away 4 pairs of knit pants because they looked like clown pants when i wore them. this was a milestone because i had had those pants for about 10 years & hated them. last week we met friends for dinner & without thinking i slid into the booth. EASILY!!!lol. this past monday i past the 50 lb lost mark & had promised myself before surgery that when i lost 50 lbs, i would try on the dress i had made for my daughters wedding, which was snug when i wore it. now its so big, the hem kept getting caught under my feet when i walked. its the milestones that keep us in a positive frame of mind, even when we plateau.

I have a few! I'm only down a bit over 40 pounds, but already I can tie my shoe without feeling like I ran a marathon, I can cross my arms and not look like I'm holding my boobs up, I don't look like a stuffed sausge when I wear jeans, I fit (still a bit tight, but fit!) in a movie seat with the arms down, my butt doesn't look quite as much like the shelf it was, and my husband can get his arms all the way around me when he hugs me...oh, and I have these wierd things sticking out...collar bones??? LOL ps- I know no one will probably say this, but it's easier to wipe your umm...goods. LOL

Awhile back, I thought I had some weird formation on my abdomen. I panicked and went to my mom who informed me that they were not strange growths but the bottom of my rib cage. Crikeys! Me, have ribs? Imagine that! HA! :)

MY BIGGEST MILESTONE WAS A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. AFTER RYN ON 12/14/01, I STARTED BEAUTY COLLEGE!!! WHILE SETTING IN THEORY CLASS I LOOKED DOWN AND SCREAMED. EVERYONE IMMEDIATELY WANTED TO KNOW IF I WAS OKAY (THEY ALL KNOW ABOUT THE SURGERY) AND I TOLD THEM YES. IT WAS THE FACT THAT WHEN I LOOKED DOWN MY LEGS WERE CROSSED. THAT IN ITSELF WAS A MIRACLE. TO TOP IT OFF, IT WAS NATURAL. I DIDN'T REALIZE IT WHEN I CROSSED THEM. BOY HAS THAT BEEN A MILLION YEARS SINCE THAT HAS HAPPENED. MY COLLAR BONE WAS A MILESTONE TOO AND TYING MY SHOES. EVERYDAY IT SEEMS LIKE THERE IS A NEW ONE. THANKS FOR THE ?...PETIE IN CALIF.

What a wonderfully fun question! I have had many terrific milestones in the last 9 months. Let's see...the day I thought my breast bone was a tumor cause I hadn't felt it in years (even had my doc feel it be sure it was a bone!) Wearing a smaller size than my sister, who's always been the small one in the family. (Funny thing, at Christmas, I had a pic made me with my sis at a family function...when the pics came back, we were the same size....I thought..."Oh poor Sis...she's gained weight..she's as big as me!" How goofy...she wasn't as big as me..I was as SMALL as her!!!!) And just cause y'all inspired me..I just went and sat on the potty...and I can see the water too!!!!!
