Question:
Has any one else out there have a breast reductin prior to weight loss surgery

Before wieght loss surgery I was a 42c I am now only a 38A and was wondering if there would be something a ps could do to increase cup size after a reduction. I know it sounds silly but I am now having to wear a wonder bra because I am now almost totally flat. Any suggestions would be appreciated    — charlotte W. (posted on September 8, 2003)

Hi Charlotte: I had a breast reduction and lift about five years agom and I'm 2 years post op from RNY. I know I did lose cup size after WLS, because when I went for my mammogram the person reading it ask if I had lost a significant amount of weight, and when I said yes she said it was really obvious from the pictures. I hadn't really noticed much because I was pretty tiny after the reduction. I had told the PS I was thinking about a c or b cup, that it didn't really matter, but I wanted it to look normal for my body size. I really didn't want the reduction as much as the lift but I needed to say reduction to get the insurance to pay. I weighed over 200 pounds at the time. I ended up a small A I think, and now it's even smaller. I don't care that much, because anything was better than how they looked preop. But it didn't turn out as well as I had thought it would. If you want to have a larger cup size now, I imagine a plastic surgeon can increase you with saline implants. I wouldn't think that'd be covered by the insurance, but if you could find a doctor to try and submit it you might as well. Right now I'm trying for a tummy tuck, even though I don't all of the things needed according to what I've read. I figure it's worth asking, and we'll see. Yes, I had breast reduction in 1998. Iwent from a F cup to a DD. Now postop I am now a D, and they get smaller by the week. It looks like I will end of a C I hope anyway. Im 3 months post op and down 62 lbs. Lisa

Had bilateral reduction in 1993 was pushing G cup went down to C, but with weight gain now at a D. Hope to return to the C cup soon

man this is funny. I just had this discussion with my sister YESTERDAY... she was laughing at me (in a nice way)becuase I was saying I needed to have a lift and implants. I had to have a breast reduction when I was 22 years old. I have a disease called hidradenitis suppurativa that causes large abcesses in the arm pits, abdomen, the ENTIRE groin area including the labia, and the buttocks including the anal area.. anyway my breasts were diseased, painful and nasty. I was squeezing into a 38DD (this was before implants were all the rage and if you needed a bigger bra than that you had to pay 100.00 plus) the surgeon took me down to a 38A.. wow, what a change... I wasn't thrilled but he had to go that low to remove all the disease. When I gained so much wieght I could no longer find bras to fit (ever seen a 42A and not have to special order it??) so I just quit wearing them. (not to mention that they rubbed my breasts as well as my underarm which caused more disease) I had rny 4/16/03 and I am down to 179 and actually WANT to wear a bra again... I want to look normal and that includes my breasts... I did some research and am thinking I can get reconstructive surgery (ins. paid) due to the disease ect.. I will certainly be having my thighs done (they are diseased as well) but NOTHING until goal weight. so is it nuts?? yup!! but don't care. I want to freaken look normal theresa

I am going through the same thing. I have come to the realization that I have the body of a 12 year old. However, I do not have to worry one bit about them drooping or sagging. I look and feel younger all the time. Yeah, I sometimes wish for more size, but I can manage. I have to have everything altered in the chest area, but I still fill out clothes nicely. I am a work in progress and can't wait to see where I will go from here. Good luck to you on your continuing journey. By the way, I am a perfect 36B now. I was a 38C prior to surgery.

I'm not sure we've really answered your question. When I had my breast reduction I discussed with my surgeon a balanced size that would work for me, I went from a 40DD to a 36D. I expect to lose a little size in the bust when I am at goal weight. But the size of your breasts after reduction are pretty much fixed: did you want to be a size A cup? You can always have breast augmentation after you reach goal weight, women have implants all the time. Good luck!
