Question:
Sorry I know this question is dumb, but . . . .

I have a few questions - First, because I'm confused What is DUMPING? Second, where I find out what all these abbreviations mean, i.e., VBG or the term proximal and distal? Okay my last question is not so dumb - Has any female had a breast lift in which the nipple was not moved, I might consider having this surgery but after consult with 1 doctor only - I feel a very minor lift could be done without relocating the nipple? Ihave had 2 breast lifts and what the doctor did was cut the skin under breast and a cut upto your nipple and around yor nipple, not cutiing it out but just taking the skin around it out. Does this make sense to you?

The breast lift question: The nipple isn't "moved", at least not the way I THINK you mean. At least not with just a lift. When I had a reduction several years ago there was so much breast tissue that the surgeon had to actually detach the areola/nipple and then reattach it in the end. That doesn't usually happen even with reduction, it's just the way mine was done. For a lift, the breast isn't made smaller, just higher and perkier, so the nipple is in a sense moved, but it's not removed ... it's just adjusted higher. It has to be. The incision is what the call a key-hole incision. Under the breast and up the middle from the bottom, around the areola. All of that is lifted back up where it should be and the nipple is sutured back into place in the middle of the breast. Look it up on line and maybe you can see pictures, you'll see what I mean. A BIG (((SNOOPY HUGZ))) to all that answered. I guess I have not "dumped" - had one experience of eating turnips, after 1 teaspoon felt like someone was choking me. Breast lift sounds good - a friend did have reduction and was told she might not have sensation from her nipple or be able to breast feed - I don't want to lose those attibutes yet.

VBG = Vertical Banded Gastroplasty - makes a small pouch, but does not bypass any intestine <p> distal = the far end - in this case, of the intestine <p> proximal = the close end <p> When talking about surgery, a proximal is a shorter bypass, measured from the proximal end. <p> Distal is longer surgery, measured from the distal end. <p> Some (many) docs do a proximal-distal, which means that they have done a long proximal surgery, measured from the proximal (close) end. <p> If it's done lap, it's proximal . . . a distal involves measuring from the far end, and cannot be done lap.

Distal procedures (either a distal RNY or the DS) CAN and ARE being done laparoscopically. I had a laparoscopic BPD/DS. All the best, Teresa
