Question:
How can I tell if I have had enough to eat?

I am 3 weeks post op and feel great but i have thrown up 3 or four times now when I either ate to fast or ate to much. My question is how do I know what is to much. I don't have any indication that I am full. I go from a bite (feeling fine) to a bite (barely or unable to keep it down) with no warning. Bye the way my meals are generally from 3 bites to a half a cup in size (depending on the consistency). Any feedback will be appreciated. Denise    — Denise H. (posted on March 4, 2002)

i remember throwing up a couple of times like you that early on. for me, it was a learning process. i learned because by the 3rd time i threw up, i was willing to slow down with my eating. in doing so something miraculous happened: i stopped listening to my head hunger and my stomach started telling me when i was full. i can not fully explain it in words but it's kinda like that saying "when the student is willing...". i hated throwing up so much that i was willing to slow down...you'll see...

denise this is what i do...first of all i know that my pouch is about 3 oz. i measure my food to weigh up to 3 oz on a diet scale. this prevents me from overeating most of the time. after putting the food in my mouth i put my fork/spoon DOWN. i chew & swallow before picking my utensil up again. now there r times that i cannot eat all 3 oz so i really try to concentrate on how my tummy feels after eating about 2 oz. if i think i am still hungry i take smaller portions on my utensil & keep concentrating on how my tummy feels. this tells me when i am satisfied or full, but, i like feeling satisfied better than feeling full. full is just as uncomfortable now as it was pre op. if for some reason i wasnt paying attention to what my tummy was telling me, my brain & tummy start working together by making me feel a little queasy when i look at the food remaining on my plate & i am thinking about another bite. that alone is enuf to make me push my plate away.
