Question:
A question about 7 hour ride home after surgey

I will be driving about 7 hours to have surgery, is the ride home something I should have concerns about? My daughter will be driving. Has anyone else done this after surgery?    — Lisa W. (posted on May 9, 2002)

Hi...I had a two hour trip to and from the hospital with my mother driving (scary in itself LOL), and I took a pillow to put in my lap for the ride home. If you've got a 7 hour trip, I would suggest that you stop every hour to hour and a half to take a short walk. This will help prevent the chance of a blood clot. You should also take your pain meds before you leave, because you're going to feel every pebble in the road. Good luck!

I had a 2-1/2 trip home. I got a pain shot before I left and I remember stopping for gas next door to the hospital and then nothing until my husband was trying to get me out of the car. I was told that I needed to stop every couple of hours to get out and walk a bit. Don't sit in the car the whole time without walking.

my ride home is normally 5 hours but after surgery was 7 beause my honey made sure to stop frequently & made me get out & walk around the car twice to keep my blood flowing. i was fine up until the last hour. at that point i was just anxious to be home because we were 'so near yet so far away'. i did spend the next 2 days in bed resting tho cause the trip did wear me out.
