Question:
Why do I feel like this WLS won't work?

I had a VRG in 1996 and am having a revision to the Duodenal Switch on 7/15. I am beiginning to wonder if it will work for me. Nothing else ever has. And in my psych. eval the shrink asked if I or my surgeon were concerned that I would become to thin. I only have about 80 pounds to lose. I am so excited about surgery, but I keep wondering if I'll be in the very small percentage of people that WLS doesn't work. Iknow this is probably nonsense on my part and could sure use some words of encouragement.    — Nanette H. (posted on June 28, 2002)

Nanette~You are probably feeling this way because of the poor results (for you) with the last surgery. Stay positive. You are making a great choice. I had a restriction type only surgery in November and just had the second half of the operation making my surgery a complete DS. Try not to worry. Wait and see what takes shape. As for losing too much, if it happens your surgeon or nutritionist can help with that too. Focus on the upside and enjoy the ride.

Nanette, I'd be surprised if you weren't at least a little apprehensive, considering your previous experience. Please believe that your feelings are REAL, are NORMAL, and are perfectly valid in the circumstances. Know that, if you stick with the program your surgeon outlines, you CANNOT fail. Chin up....
