I have seen this question before but cant find the answer

If your insurance approves you for surgery and you decide to change surgeons will you have to go through the approval process again for the new surgeon?    — Lisa F. (posted on May 16, 2003)

Not generally - you can call and request that the new surgeon/hospital/etc be changed on the paperwork. Unless the surgery they are performing is different...for example if you've been approved for 3 days for lap-RNY and switch to open-RNY and the new surgeon requires a 5 day stay, you may have to be reapproved. I think you need to call your insurance company and make sure the new doctor is in your network and ask them the best way to proceed with changing doctors.

Hi Lisa, I was approved by one surgeon- I had a surgery date and everything - then he decided to drop my network and wanted several thousand dollars up-front. So I found a new surgeon in my network - I went to his seminar and had an appt with him the same day. I just took my copy of the approval letter, they called the insurance to verify and make the switch . I left that day with a surgery date. I had no problems. I have Trustmark insurance with PHCS as my network.

WOOHOO Kelly! I have the SAME insurance!Both Drs are in the network so it shouldnt be a problem.I just hope they dont drop out of the network because rt now Im looking at 500 dollars and then they cover 100%(Trustmark).
