Question:
What if I chickened out?

Hi guys -- I was scheduled for LAP RNY on 11/29/00 but chickened out at the last minute. After much thought and prayer I am going to call my doc to see what I need to do to get rescheduled. Will I need to start back over with the consultation and insurance approval? I need and want this surgery so badly and I am afraid if I put it off any longer my health will decline to the point where I can't have it at all. So, this message is just to ask for thoughts and prays that I find the strength to go through with it this time.    — Donna H. (posted on March 25, 2001)

Check with your doctor's office. My doc had said that if I chickened out at the last minute that was better than doing something you weren't sure about and that it could be rescheduled when you were sure. Good luck!

Don't consider it chickening out-It just wasn't the right time for you. Today is a different story. You're in a different place in your life and so now's the time. Just explain this with your surgeon and I'm sure all will be fine. Best wishes on your new quest!

When I went in for my consult, I was excited about the procedure but voiced concerns because like so many of us,I had never had a major surgery before. The surgeon told me it was my decision to have the surgeon. Any surgeon worth his or her weight in gold will understand about backing out. Call your insurance company to see if your approval is still good and call your doctors office to reschedule a consult. Good luck, Jan

If you weren't ready, then it was meant to be. When I woke up in the hospital all I wanted to do was go back in time and chicken out myself. It's the biggest decision you'll ever make in life. Make sure your ready and then you won't be as nervous. Good luck!
