Question:
I have had two prior abdominal surgeries (c-sections) without

complication of blood clots or anesthesia. Would this be an indication that I probably wont have these problems with my WLS? The possibility of these complications scare me greatly, and I am having a difficult time getting past it. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!    — Donna H. (posted on April 26, 2001)

I have had a prior open spleenectomy and a lap appendectomy. I had no problem with clotting or anesthesia either and my surgeon told me I'd probably do really well after the surgery. It helps to have had experience with anesthesia in particular, because a lot of people are allergic to morphine. I found out I'm allergic to codeine. My surgeon said they are really careful about clots and give you lots of anti-clotting meds. They also put cuffs on your legs (like blood pressure cuffs) that inflate and deflate to keep the blood moving in your ankles. Don't freak. My doctor also said that the incidences of clotting are really infrequent and often in those over 400lbs with other major medical problems.
