Question:
Has anyone tried Lunelle, the monthly birth control shot?
I know the pill is not working adequately for me because I'm having breakthrough bleeding. I do not want to get pregnant so I'd like to hear from anyone who has tries Lunelle. Thanks. — Lisa B. (posted on May 1, 2001)

I don't know if you are in a monogamous relationship but if you are I would
do some research on an IUD. I love mine!!! There are no hormones ( with the
copper T) I have not had any problems, no heavy bleeding,no cramping,no
infections. They are good for ten years. And you don't have to remember to
take anything. The IUD's today are nothing like the IUD's in the seventies.
I had one in for four years got it taken out and became pregnant in five
months. The only downfall is that you have to be in a monogamous
relationship because multiple partners raise the risk of PID. Dana

I haven't tried Lunelle, but I take DepoProvera every three months and I
LOVE it!! I haven't had a period in two years and it's really convenient
to only get it four times a year. My insurance covers it and it's a
nurse's visit to the doctor, so there's not even a co-pay. I think the
monthly shot might get a little annoying b/c you'd have to find time to go
in and get it every month.

Hi, I Just started getting my Lunelle shots, Due to the fact I didnt want
to get pregnant before or after surgery. So far ive been on it for two
months and havent experienced any problems, I had to use a back up method
for a month while my body got use to it. Im having my surgery on June 11,
and my sister is a register RN, so she will be giving my shots to me, while
I cant make it into my doctors office. Ive heard alot of good things about
it, and my Obgyn is very cautious with me, So I think this is going to be a
good thing for me. :o) Hope this helps a little..

I just picked up my first dose today. I will get my first injection next
week. While talking to my obgyn she said that she thought i would have
trouble absorbing my birth control pills that I currently take after
surgery and didnt want me to miss any pills the few days after surgery when
you cant eat or drink anything so this is what she suggested to me. She
didnt suggest the depoprovo because she said one of its main side effects
was weight gain and the Lunelle does not. She also said that the depro can
stay in your system for eighteen months after your last injection and that
wasnt good for me becuase after I balance off I want another child. She
said that if I knew someone that was certified to give the injection I
wouldnt have to come to the office and pay the $18 injection fee. Luckily
my Aunt is a nurse and I have 2 friends that are nurses and my Mother in
law is a nurse so I dont see it as a problem. Any way good luck

Just in case anyone out there is interested... I've been using Lunelle for
BC for the last year, and I think it's great! I'm preop (3 days to go) and
have had no bad side effects... neither the breast tenderness I used to
get with the Pill, and the benefits of estrogen (which isn't in
Depo-Provera, the three-month shot).
