Question:
5 months post and now a Hernia?

I just found out at 51/2 months post I have a small hernia. I have had no other complications at all. My surgery was 2/20/01, open rny with exclusion. I run 2miles a day now, even doing 5k races. Should I not be doing this? Do I have to have it fixed or can I wait til I have abdominoplasty next year? Is this common? I have made an appointment with a general surgeon, but thats not for another week and I dont know if I should just chill out on the running thing til then. Thanks for any help Tam    — Tam P. According to barb thompsons book 30% of open patients end up with hernias. In general they arent a problem and most are fixed when plastic surgery is done. May help get plastic surgery approved too. They are dangerous only if strangulated where they cut off blood flow to the bowell. This creates terrible pain and if it occurs go mmediately to your ER. You should certinally check with your doctor ASAP and avoid heavy lifting but running is probably ok. Incidently hernias are extremely rare with LAP which is why I choose this surgery.
