Question:
I'm pre-op at 5'8

Looking for post-ops who are the same height that can tell me their weight and approximate clothing sizes and measurements. I am trying to figure out what I should weigh. As far as BMI goes, I should be anywhere between 122-164. I set my original goal at 150, but people keep telling me that I would be too small at that weight. Right now, my measurements are about 46", 45", 60" for bust, waist and hips. I am trying to find people in the 130-170 range that are my same height that can tell me their measurements and what size they wear and photos would be great, too. Thanks...    — kristynush (posted on June 17, 2003)

I'm almost 5'7" (5'6.5") and wear a size 8 at 155 pounds. If you went down to 150, you would most likely be a size 6 or less which could be too thin depending on your frame. It's hard to tell what size you'll be at what weight as it varies depending on how long you've been MO and your muscle tone. People would never think I weighed as much as I do. Most guess I weigh around 135.

I am pre-op, my surgery is on August 6th. I am 5'8" and right now weigh 325. My surgeon has set my goal weight to be 145. Now I was not overweight until I was 38 years old, so I can tell you what I weight was before then, it was anywhere from 120 to 140, but I did feel the very best at about 160 to 170. So even though my surgeon's goal weight for me is 145, I am going to aim for 160 to 170 so that I am not putting so much pressure on myself if I am a slow loser. I do not know if this helps you, just a suggestion, you may want to find out what your surgeon's goal weight for you is.

Hi. I am 5'8" and had a starting weight of 273. i did my measuerments the night before surgery and they were 49", 43", 57" for bust, waist, and hips. I am a ittle over 4 weeks out and my measurements as of Friday were 47", 39", 53". So a loss of 10 inches in just these 3 places. My ultimate goal is 150lbs, but my doctor told me I could end up anywhere between 140-170. Good luck in your journey. - Janine

At 5'8", I am now 152 pounds (down 125 pounds from 278). I am at goal, and last week my PCP told me not to lose any more weight - that I was perfect! (Unbelievable!) Anyway, I think I'm still about 10 pounds over-weight, but it might be all just excess skin. I wear a size 10/12. I think after plastic surgery, I'll be in an 8/10. Best recommendation I can give is just to wait and see how you feel as you settle in at various weights. I think I look pretty darn good right now! I could stay at this weight and be very happy.

I am 5 months post op, just shy of 5'8" and started at 277 with measurements of 46.5", 51", 52" respectively. (very apple like) I was a size 22 or 24 pre op. I am now in a 14 and maybe a 12 in some stuff. I have not shopped in a while and some 14s are getting a little roomy. My measurements are now 37.5", 37", 42.5. (still an apple!) I have lost a total of 82 inches so far and 91 pounds. I am 186 currently with an ultimate goal of 147. I think that having smaller more short term goals has been the best and most rewarding thing for me. I sest a date and pick a weight and it makes me feel accomplished as opposed to only having the final goal in sight. Now I am just a girl who needs to lose 35 pounds! Not still the girl trying to lose 135! It is a way that I trick my self into not becoming overwhelmed by the whole thing.

I am a 5'8" classic apple-shape. That means I have too much belly, no butt and no hips! I started at 298lbs. At 11-1/2 months out, I have lost 130lbs., putting me at 168lbs. currently. I'm still wearing the size 14 pants I've been wearing since I was around 185. I could get in 12's but from time to time they will be tight in the waist...and I'm holding out for the tummy tuck before I buy anymore pants or shorts darn it! I KNOW with a tummy tuck I will most likely be a size 10. Tops, I usually wear a size L. For awhile they were kind of snug but the last 10 or 15lbs. seems to have come off the bust :( I went from a very tight 48DD bra, down to my current 38D bra that is looming close to a C cup someday soon! With excess skin removal a breast lift, they will be a perky C. (I dare to dream!) My goal weight originally was to be around 175-180. But now I'm going for hitting and maintaining 160. Heck, if I could get my extra skin removed I'd be at 160 right now! As for measurements I went from a waist of 51" to current 36", hips from 52" to 38". It just dawned on me...my measurements are 38-36-38. Ick! I have no curves...I knew it! Tummy tuck here I come!

There are many factors that affect our size/weight ratio. I am 5'8" and 124 pounds. My original goal was 150 pounds. I blew right by it! I started out a classic "pear" at 260. I am now a stick, but (thanks Dr. Jones)at least I am a stick with boobs. I have had a breast lift with implants, so that affects measurements and size. I am 34/25/35 and usually wear a 6 to accomodate the top half (34DD). I wear a size 4 pants usually, but a 6 in dresses in tops. Once in a great while I even need an 8 on top. This is the only time in my life that I have ever had a top half that is bigger than my bottom! I lost my weight from the top down and was still a pear until I went below 145; all the final pounds came from hips and thighs. I am very small boned, to my complete surprise. My wrist is about 5" in diamater. All those years I believed (and told everyone) I was big boned: ha! I'm not. hugs, Ann RNY 9/10/99 260/124
