Question:
Has anybody try to buy life insurance after their surgery.

Yes, I did. It was about 11 years ago. I was turned down. Only tried one company and can't even remember the name now---I do have some insurance thru work now.

Yup, I did. I was about 18 months post-op, and bought term insurance. I am able to be re-evaluated in another year and have my premium rate dropped by approximately $100 a month. I am currently paying between $200 and $300 a month for a very large policy. My husband, an overweight, diabetic with a cardiac history is paying WAY more than my premium. Not much we can do about his unless his weight gets under control. He is beginning to think about the idea of WLS but his BMI is not really high enough. It would be a tough fight.

Yes. For my husband. He was "rated" at 2 y rs out, but now, with so many years, stable wt, stable labs, they don't bat an eye. So far.

I used to work for an insurance company and they would consider preferred rates at one year post-op as long as all the co-morbs are under control and weight is steady. It is amazing for former diabetics.

Yes, I did get life insurance at almost two years post-op, and what is funny, my husband who has NOT had WLS but has high blood pressure, high cholostral, and is paying much higher for his insurance. I did have to have my medically records reviewed to show that I no longer have health issues like diabetes, or high blood pressure. Good luck, and don't let them tell you that you are a risk, you are more likely to outlive the rep!

Yes, I applied for life insurance with Allstate and was told that I would need to wait 6 mths post-op before they would consider me. So, in mid-June I can have the life insurance.

Yes i started getting Globe Life and I did not have any problems getting it.

My insurance is with Allstate, too. They will give you insurance, but will charge slightly more for up to 2 years post-op. After that they will drop the rate. At least this is what I was told, and has been my experience. Good luck!

I had no problem - I didn't get new insurance, but I maxed out my insurance at work, which meant I had to get a physicial and submit it to the insurance company for approval. Actually, they said I was in way better health after the surgery than before.
