Question:
Can I take penicillin and vicodin post op?

I am 15 months post op so I should know this but I had a tooth pulled today. The surgeon gave me penicillin and vicodin. I think I had vicodin after wls but I want to make sure since I ended up with 2 bleeding ulcers last year for taking the wrong medications. Thanks!!! Tracy    — tracyr (posted on May 24, 2003)

Tracy, There shouldn't be any reason you can't take either of those drugs post wls if you could take them before. I am allergic to pennicillin so I can't take it but I take a vicodin every night because of severe arthritis and it doesn't bother me at all. In fact, the surgeon who did my RNY is the doctor who prescribes it for me. Most surgeons give liquid Lortab after surgery and it's a liquid form of vicodin. Hope you are feeling better soon.
