After the initial consult, what does the pre-op testing consist of?

Good Morning!
I can ony answer for me because I think every doctor does things different.
I have had my initial consult, next I meet with the dietician and go for
the psych eval, after that (if all goes well) I make appointments for the
blood work and any other tests the doctor deems necessary. If this doesn't
answer your question you will need to talk to someone familiar with YOUR

Hi, For me I had to do a pysch eval go to a nutritionist, Have an upper GI
(yuck) a chest x-ray and abdominal ultra sound an EKG and blood work. hope
this helps you!

Yes, everyones pre-op can be different, it depends on your medical history
and on your surgeon's requirements. I had 2 psych evals one with w
psychologist 500+ MMPI questions, then an appt with the psychiatrist who
did the letter to sned to my surgeon. I saw a nutritionists. I had to
have a 2nd surgical opinion with another surgeon from the same group. That
surgeon reccommended that I see a cardiologist for an echocardiogram
because I took phen/fen a few years ago. I also have to see a pulmonary
specialist to get clearance for surgery because of my history with asthma
and pneumonia. I had to have a stomach condition that I had called H
Pylori cleared up through my PCP. I also have trouble with a fungal
infection that is near where the incision will be and I have to make sure
that gets cleared up before surgery too. Your surgeon will make sure that
you have all the necessary visits and tests that you will need. Hospital
pre-op will consist of a complete blood work up, an EKG and a Chest x-ray
done the week before surgery. It is worth all the wait.

My surgeon only requires two tests...I had a gall bladder ultrasound and an
upper GI. I was relatively healthy and on no meds pre-op. If I had been, I
probably would have required more (labs, etc...). I did not need a psych
eval, sleep study, cardiac clearance, etc... It was very simple and

My surgeon ordered an abdominal ultrasound, chest x-ray, EKG, urinalysis,
bloodwork and blood gasses.

I was a bit worried about pre-op testing. I think each surgeon has their
own tests done and I think it depends on your health situation. My surgeon
required: EKG, Gallbladder ultrasound, Upper GI, Chest X-rays, urinalysis,
CBCs, coronary risk panel, thyroid panel and liver panel (and some other
blood word, I think). Good Luck!
