Question:
Anyone able to disprove the

I've been accepted for RNY revision of simple gastric stapling done in 1984. My Surgeon says don't expect to be as successful as a first timer. I'm hoping to find others who disprove this. Just curious: Why, according to your dr, would you not be as sucessful as a first timer?

My father had the stapling in the early/mid 80s and just had the RNY done in 2001. He has since went down from 500+ to around 225. I think that was pretty darn successful. Good Luck! Sincerely, Mary Beth

I was hoping someone would ask this question besides me. I had VGB in 1922...obviously the surgery did not have long lasting succes. I had revision to a RNY 4/10/02. My surgeon told me the same thing, that we revisions should not expect the same results as results as those first timers to baratric surgery. I was told it is due our bodies metabolisms having been through this once and the tissue not being fresh. I cannot remember the percentage of weight loss I was to expect and wanted to ask that at my appt this past Monday, but the dr wasnt in I saw a nurse. Anyway, I am just shy of 10 months post op. I have lost 141 pounds. I am almost at the weight I reached with the VGB....I am going to try to lose another 45, which is about 25 more than I lost with the VGB. I tracked the percentage I've lost so far...its around 73%. I think you may agree with me in the fact that you have already been through this once...you certainly don't want to fail. It has made me work harder knowing that surgery can fail. I am more strict with myself and I work hard to be sure to eat healthy.
