Question:
I got out of the shower today and noticed my drain tube is trying to slide out!!!

I am freaking out! I don't go back to get staples/drain removed until the 29th... and starting to panic. Anyone else had this problem????? Thanks    — momof3 (posted on April 22, 2003)

Don't worry hun. When I had mine taken out by the doc 9 days post op that thing is so far inside there I doubt it will come out! Mine was at least probably 12 inches inside of me! hehe! Good Luck!

I am in the nursing field and it wont hurt anything if it comes out on its own but I doubt it will. I didnt even have one and I healed up just fine. Call the Dr. in the morning just to let him know but dont panic it isnt too big of a deal. Wendi Open RNY 9/19/02 down 117lbs

You're over 10 days post op. Are you still having a lot of drainage? If not you probably don't need it anyhow. If there is very little or no drainage anymore and its bothering you why not see if can have it taken out this week instead of next? I know when I caught one of my drains before and ripped it a few inches out, that my body just kept trying to push the rest of the drain out. I hated that and so the drain came out very soon afterwards. Don't worry though, if you had a drain like myself (just as with the previous poster) it was LONG and so would still be in there quite a ways.

very nasty experience, isn't it? i had a tt, 2 yrs ago, for med. reasons, and am still awaiting wls, but i got my drainage tube hooked on my car door handle and ripped it about 4 inches out. ouch! and panic! went to the doc right away and got it removed early! i was happy for that. but it was in there about 12 inches! so a little ways out is no biggie. and it didnt hurt at all when it was removed. didnt feel a thing! it was gross, though! i feel for ya! darci
