Question:
What happens if my iron level is too low, will I still have my scheduled surgery?

The nurse told me that I have to start taking vitamins now so that my iron levels won't be so low that she would have to cancel my surgery date. Is the iron level being too low common, do I have anything to worry about. I also got my "little friend" now and my PATS are scheduled for July 31st. The last thing I want is for her to tell me that my iron is too low and I have to reschedule my surgery. My job has already approved my time off.    — [Anonymous] (posted on July 26, 2001)

I was scheduled to have my surgery on 5/24 but was postponed due to low iron. My PCP had me take 4 iron supplements daily. I finally did have my surgery on 6/21. When they rescheduled my surgery I was devastated, but after they explained that having low iron could result in a blood transfusion on the operation table I knew they were right with their decision. The risk of that happening was just to great to test it. Now I am five weeks post and feeling just fine .. over 30lbs gone. Best of luck to you and just remain postive.

I am wondering the same thing, if I find out anything, I will definitely post it.
