Question:
Anyone end up with a feeding tube post-op?

Last Thursday 6/5/03,I had a feeding tube placed, after having surgry for adhesions and scar tissue build up.I was exactly 4 weeks post-op on the day of surgery. My surgeon said he was going to leave the feeding tube in place for approx 1 month,I'm to use the tube to build myself back up,put most all my Protein/water thru tube.Take my vitamins and calories by mouth.Just wondering has anyone else gonr thru this? The tube is very uncomfortable as well, any comments? I left the hospital with a g-tube (not sure if it is the same thing you have) although never had to feed myself through it. It was a precaution since I had a bowel obstruction from the open rny. It was in place for 5 weeks. I had to constantly tuck it into my undies and make sure it didn't accidently open. It helped wearing my binder to keep it secured in place. Also we used a 4x4 dressing to keep any drainage at the incision hole off my skin. I will forewarn you that it was a little painful coming out-- seemed like more force was needed to yank it out than it took for the JP drain. I had someone with me to drive afterwards but was fine, just grossed out. Suggestion to try-- taking a pain reliever beforehand. Also, sleeping half sitting up helped!!

Yes, I had a tube after I had a second surgery for a bowel obstruction. I didn't like it but it wasn't particularly painful. I fed ensure through the tube as well as water. It didn't hurt coming out, just felt funny. I didn't like the experience but I honestly can't say it was painful, just icky. I look back on it and honestly say it was the worst part of the whole wls experience, even with complications.
