Revision from RNY to DS.

Can someone please provide me with the list of the few docs that do the revision surgery from RNY to DS. Also, I know most of them are not approved with insurance or do not accept it...I have UHC and am looking for minimal out of pocket as far as the surgery goes and would love to find a doc that accepts insurance.

Any suggestions?

From where you are, I think the closest would be Dr. Buchwald and the rest of his group in MN. Others are Dr. Roslin in NYC, Dr. John Rabkin in San Francisco, and Dr. Keshishian in Glendale, CA. I think Dr. Stewart in Denton, TX, might also be doing these revisions, but I'm not sure. Dr. Greenbaum in NJ will sometimes do them, it may depend on how the original RNY was done.

As far as insurance goes, some policies will cover revisions, some cover them in limited cir****tances (like some anatomic breakdown or the original procedure), some don't cover them at all. The bottom line is that you must get your own specific policy and review it for yourself. Don't trust anything someone tells you over the phone, YOU must take responsibility for knowing the rules of your own policy.

Also, depending on cir****tances, even if your insurer denies your request, that can be appealed, though it's much harder to win appeals for revisions than it is for first time procedures. Still, it's a possibility, again depending on your policy and how it is funded.

Hi,

I have United Health Care as well though it is a PPO plan. I had a revision done in March of this year with  Dr. John Rabkin in San Francisco. Though I was local his office is setup for people who have to travel for the revision. He is considered one of the best surgeon's for this type of surgery. It is complex and has to be open. www.dsfacts.com is a good site to get more information from.

Best of luck in your journey. Terri

Monique,

You are right I should have worded it differently. Dr. Rabkin does the RNY to DS procedures as open. I don't know about all the different surgeons. There was no choice to the matter when discussed with Dr. Rabkin but believe he thought it was safer.

So if someone is going to have this conversion surgery they should be prepared for an open procedure if lap does not work for them.

Thanks, Terri

Monique,

And after you had your lap RNY to DS revision, there was a patient who had an RNY to DS revision done lap, with your surgeon, ans they had complications with their pouch-to-stomach=-to-sleeve portion of the surgery that they ended up with really BAD complications.  Something to the effect of there was comprimised blodd flow to the sleeve because the lap procedure did not catch it, as opposed to having it done open.

Maybe there are other peeps *****member this as well.
