Birth control question
I was taking the birth control pill prior to seeing Dr. Glazer. He told me I had to come off of it and go on the patch. However, my insurance doesn't cover anything besides the pill, so now I'm not on anything and I have mild cramping all the time. Is it true that you can't be on the pill post-op?

RNY on 06/25/12
I've heard different opinions on the pill post-o, but it's not a good idea. There are too many issued with absorption (if you're having RNY) and you don't want to run the risk of it not absorbing. The patch and the NuvaRing have the same hormones, different delivery method so much more effective for post-ops. I use the NuvaRing and love it.
My insurance also indicates it only covers the pill, but it does cover the patch and the ring. I think they're considfered the same type of drug because they use the same hormones and are roughly the same cost. You should look into this. There are many other options out there as well so check them out and decide what's right for you.

I heard the same thing and tried the patch post op .... I had many issues with the patch, bad cramps and spotting in btwn cycles. Having to use 1 patch and halft to help with in btwn spotting.
I am much happier being back on the pill and have had no issues at all with it.
It depends on the person. See what's right for you.

The internist said 100kg which is around 220lbs but when I google it I find between 180lbs and 198lbs. I am trying to find product info for the patch.
My problem is I don't want to go on mirena or depo bc I do want to have a baby within the next few years. I'm going to make an appointment with my family dr to get some advice.

Once the Mirena IUD is removed your fertility should be restored almost right away. If you have already had at least one child the Mirena would be a great option for you.
Depo can be a whole other issue. I belonged to online groups for women with primary and secondary infertility issues and a lot of women had problems after using Depo.
