What do I need to do to get a Lap-band?

Hello I ve been wanting to get a lap band but dont no where to start?Should I talk to my insurance or make an appointment with a Bariatric Dr.? What are the right steps. I want to be approved fast, I dont want it to be a long hard process. PLEASE HELP!!!! Memphis Tn Victoria [email protected]

Hi Victoria, It depends on if your insurance requires a referral to see a specialist. As far as I know there are two doctors in Memphis who do LAP Band surgery- Dr. Atul Madan and Dr. George Woodman. If your insurance does not have an exclusion for WLS or require a referral, I would call the surgeons. -Debbie

oops- I just saw that you have UHC- They don't require referrals. I would call them and ask if they have a written exclusion for obesity surgery. -Debbie
