Looking for some locals from around the Vegas  area to get some ideas on sightseeing. We will be there the week of October 7-11. I will be celebrating my 1 year surgiversary and don't want to spend the entire time in the casinos.  Saw some video on the Virgin River Gorge that looks like a nice drive. Am planning on heading out to Mesquite anyway. We will have a car so travel is not a problem. If you have any must see's please let me know. I really want to celebrate this 1 year with everything I can do. Thanks. Bob

I would say the Grand Canyon is worth the drive, it's just incredible, we toured the Hoover dam on the way.  We also went back and rented a boat on Lake Mead which was lots of fun.  We also went to Red Rock Canyon.  Seeing all the casino's is also a lot of fun, I don't gamble or drink but there is so much to see it doesn't matter, tons of walking also.  We went the first time as my 1 yr anniversary celebration of wls, and again a couple of years ago.

Enjoy.

Downtown Fremont area is great!  You can catch the bus from Fremont St and go all down the strip for cheap.

Love Mesquite. The Virgin River Gorge is wonderful.

Grand Canyon really is a must if you have never been.

Love the comedy clubs! Heidi is right, the casinos are worth going into and looking at.  They are amazing.  They have tons of shows, eateries etc in them.  So do not just write them off.

Google Las Vegas tourism and email them and you will get a ton of really fun and interesting stuff from them.

If you are a golfer there are a ton of golf courses even though some are pricey.

Oh goodness, you will have so much fun!  Vegas is one of my all time favorite towns!

I was there an went on a atv tour. Was great fun. Just google dune buggies.
They will send a van for you. A short ride 30 minutes from the strip.
They have 2 or 4 seater buggies. So you can take wife and kids easy.

Great fun . The dessert is like mars compared to Pennsylvania rolling hills.

Also a.bus trip to hoover dam is a great
Trip.
Good advice - avoid gambling and the strip clubs. Leave the credit cards at home. We are all just marks to those folks.
Have fun and site see. What a great place to go if stay clear of the sin side of sin city.

Thanks for the replys. I in no way shape or form are going to bypass any casinos. That is my passion for night time. Really looking forward to Virgin River Gorge drive.  The dune buggys sounds interesting also. 2 weeks and counting.

Valley of Fire is about an hour away and worth the trip. Red Rocks in about 25-30 minutes out and also worth the trip. Sometimes, you just need a break from the Neon.

Speaking of which, The Neon Boneyard is a GREAT place to visit if you want to see some LV history.

Is the valley of fire north or south?
