what's with all the horizonal stripes?

Ok, I've finally broken down and started to look for new clothes. I can wear an XL now... quite a change from a 5X. So off I go to the mall for an afternoon of "shopping".

Where are the cotton/poly fabrics and the prints???? I've never seen so many horizontal stripes in my life. Really??? Horizontal stripes. I know I'm smaller but that stripe still does a great job of enhancing the width of the wearer. Racks and racks of stripes. Is it the season or the current trend?

I expected to come back home with a bag of clothes. I bought a sweater... a lovely gray and white sweater from the Loft. Where's the color? Where's the prints?

Congratulations on your weight loss

I am embarrassed to say but if it was not on Lane Bryant I didn't know anything about any other stores/clothes. When I hit the mall I was overwhelmed. Shop on line just to get ideas of style and colors we never dared to wear. Once you do then you can find retail stores that have that look you are looking for.

Regards,

Kathy

Yes to what Kathy said about the online stuff. You will find all different prints and such as well as a lot of different sizes. Make sure you consult the size guidelines for each manufacturer though and that you understand any return policies.

I hope this is allowed here and if it's not my apologies, but my go-to for awhile was Facebook groups where members sold new or gently used clothes. The prices are not bad so if I saw something I liked I just went ahead and bought it. If it didn't fit I donated or, if it was too small, I waited awhile until it fit. Since you are buying without trying on there is some risk and I ended up with a few things that fit but didn't look "right" to me. Those episodes helped me understand what styles worked on my new body though so it was just a good deal all the way around.

If you're interested, PM me for the names of the groups I am in and I will gladly share the links.

Happy Shopping=)

Don't automatically dismiss the horizontal stripe. I would never have worn them when I was MO, but have a ton in my wardrobe now. Try a sweater or other top on, and you might be surprised at how good it looks.

I dislike stripes. I know they are in right now, but not on me.

I tend to buy solid colors and add prints with accessories. I also have better luck at the thrift store than the mall.

Ugg. Horizontal stripes. Around here, there used to be nothing but horizontal stripes. These days, everyone's wearing orange jumpsuits.

Just make sure you don't rob the butcher of those prime rib eyes and you won't have to worry about the orange jump suits grim.

I say we make every politician wear horizontal stripes and hip waders every time they appear in public. Other professions have uniforms: Walmart has ugly blue smocks, electricians wear tool belts and hard hats, hookers wear platform heels and mini skirts.

They should switch it up. Have the electricians wear the platform heels and mini skirts.

Damnit, Fred, wax your legs better if you're gonna wear a micro mini next week. Your leg hair clashes with the grips on your Kleins.
