Tri Care question ????
OK, so I went to my NUT class today and there was a couple there who have tri-care also. The dependent female was having the surgery and was told that they need to pay $400 up front for the surgeon.
I asked did they have prime? They didn't know
I told them they could go on the Humana website and log on to see what the entitlements are and get a idea of what they have to pay.
I'm wondering if they have other tricare standard or something else?
I said I know that I pay $25.00 for the registration and then $11 for each day that I am there.
Did anyone who has tri-care have to pay a large amount of money before surgery at a non MTF doctor?

Not answering on the Tricare front but my surgeon charged a $450 fee for nutritionist & exercise training sessions (8 of them) which were not covered by insurance. Maybe that's why they paid $400 up front? Does your surgeon have/require NUT & exercise programs?

Each visit to my surgeon was $25, each visit to PCP was $15, each specialist another $25, then the program fee of $450..... and still haven't gotten my bill from the actual surgery but did get the total surgery amount - $20K!! I'm fearing what my % will be.... and praying all the adjunctive people were covered under the insurance or I'm gonna be ticked.....

I have Tri-care prime retired, I paid 25. at time of registration n nothing else. this was at a civilian hospital in TX. You can always call the hospital and speak to them to get an idea of ur costs. If someone has tri care standard then maybe they would have higher co- pays but how much i dont know.
Good luck

I think it varies by REGION because the various TriCare regions are administered by different companies. If we're all in different areas, and call tomorrow, we'll all get different answers. Plus, then there is the Prime / Standard / Remote issue - but that is determined by the individual. If they are Standard, they CHOSE to pay something to have access to the care they WANT (within that region's system). How could they not KNOW what program they are under? The service member pays for that every month. That sounds odd to me. But even when I was considering having this surgery at a civilian hospital (the kids and I are Prime, with an Active Duty Sponsor), there was no talk of payment, either to the hospital OR the doctor's office for NUTs or anything else.
Worse case scenario, I've only ever paid for meals in civilian hospitals.

i have tri care prime, down here in sunny florida...i had to pay a $612.00 but that was for education class, 3 months worth of vitamins..this was paid to the surgeons office, then i had a $25 co pay for the hospital stay...but for my next 6 months visits, i do not have to pay any other co pays when i go in and see the dr....i have also met with the NUT twice, i am 1 month post op....i knew i was going to have to pay the 612 from the very first time i went to pre class, they asked me for insurance stuff and while i was in class, they did the work up and i walked out knowing that i was going to have to pay that amount, so was no surprise...i also knew about the 25 to the hopsital as that was due like a week before surgery...but that is pretty much standard for hospital stay with tri care prime....as far as i know, that is all i have to pay...i have not gotten any bills yet for surgery..but i am sure they will be coming soon..
