What to expect

Hi,

This is my first ever post. My RNY surgery is in 2 weeks. I am worried that I will not have lost enough weight on the Optifast. How much weight did other people lose in their pre-op Optifast phase. My body just won't drop weight. I haven't cheated, have has all my water and then some, plus the fibre tablets. Although I am allowed a few green veggies if I absolutely need them, I haven't had any of those either.

I would appreciate hearing about other people's experiences!

My pre op diet was a clear liquid diet 3 days before surgery so I cant really compare my experience to yours but I did lose about 10 pounds during those 3 days.

I dont know what restrictions your surgeon has but I wouldnt think losing enough would be an issue, your having the surgery because you cant lose weight on your own right?  But I dont know what your surgeon says.

Good luck and try not to worry too much. 

My pre-op diet was different so I can't compare. However, don't worry because if you do the diet according to their plan you will loose! People who worry are those who've strayed from their pre-op diet. And everyone looses differently because of their metabolism, starting weight, etc...so don't worry and you'll do great!

Everyone seems to lose a different amount. The main thing is you stuck to the optifast. You want the fat around your liver to drop. I wouldn't worry too much about the lbs.
