I can only tell you what works for me.  I drink a small coffee (4 to 6oz) every three or four days.  That is it.

I was never a regular coffee drinker, so it might not work for those who were/are.

You can take a laxative if you desire to do so.

I tend to take Miralax in the morning, as well as in the evening if things are getting slow. That seems to help me.

WATER, WATER and MORE WATER!!!  I am 13 weeks out and had a major problem early post op.  Miralax worked for me only with a lot of water intake.  Only needed it for a few days however.  I drink an ISOPURE Protein pre mixed drink everyday and eventhough they may be a little pricey they have worked wonders for keeping me regular also.  Try the grape or punch flavors....

Attacking your issue from the other end may have quicker results

I use benefiber and drink a LOT of water. Otherwise, I have serious issues.

Which leads to attacks from the other end, as Paul so elegantly put it.

I take a stool softener every day so I can go every other day, otherwise I can't go for a week.

Please take care of this as soon as possible. I was in the ER last week having 3 enemas for an impacted bowel. Worst experience of my life. I posted about it before and after and got many great suggestions for things that are good to take.

They are: Colace tablets, Miralax, Smooth Move tea, Milk of Magnesia, Mag Ox, Fiber Choice chewable fiber tablets, suppositories and/or enemas, and Benefiber which is tasteless and you can put it in foods you cook.

If you are already backed up bad, don't take fiber since it will only bulk up your stools worse. Focus on getting the poop out and wait a few days for your system to normalize then slowly add in fiber to stay regular.

Don't let it go too long! Believe me you don't want to go through what I did. Best of luck to you!

My doctor suggested a Probiotic or fiber supplement every day. It really does help me.
