6 Days Post Op - Problem with protein
I had surgery last Monday, came home on Wednesday afternoon. Things have been going pretty well, fortunately no complications. I'm having no problems getting enough water in, but am having problems with the protein. I've tried Unjury chicken soup, which was pretty good, and made some "mocha" type drinks by adding chocolate protein to decaf coffee, also had some yogurt. The problem is that I just don't feel hungry and am still in a good bit of pain so just don't feel like "eating".
I know the protein is super important but is it realistic to be trying to get ALL the protein in this early out? Is it okay if I work up to it?
Tks, Kathy
I think it's realistic to try, but it's not unusual for it to take a while to build up to get it all in.

I was about two weeks out before I FINALLY got in all my protein (65-70g) without a problem. I added skim milk powder to my soups. I found it hard to get it all in while I was on liquids.
You will likely not feel like eating for quite a while, so it is important that you get into the habit of eating even when you don't feel like it. Otherwise, you may NEVER eat! That being said, however, many (if not most) people don't get all of their protein in right away. Yes, the protein IS important, but not getting it all right away isn't a major issue. I got all of mine very early out, but I had a gastric tube and I used that to take in protein shakes that I didn't like or didn't feel like drinking, LOL! I definitely would not have otherwise.
