Ok so I'm 11 weeks post op tomorrow I'm only down 35 lbs.  I'm frustrated with myself and just not knowing which direction to turn.

I feel I should be loosing more weight I'm mad at myself because I haven't gotten on a strict work out regimen.  I've been so tired and it's been so rainy here that I just can't get into it.

Please any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Well, you've lost an average of a little over three pounds per week, and my surgeon said three to five pounds per week is normal, so it sounds like you're doing fine in that regard.

Why does rain mean you can't work out?  Can you work out indoors?

If you're so tired that's making it impossible to work out, that's something to talk to your doctor about.  It's about time for your three month post op labs, anyway.  Are you taking your iron and B12?

Right now I'm only taking a multi vitamin and calcium- I went for my 6 week checkup and labs were good so I don't go back till the end of July.

As far as working out I love to walk outside that's usually what I do for a workout yes I can do something else I guess I just need to find the motivation Like I said I'm just having a pity party for myself I know I just need to get out and exercise I just haven't found that motivation yet I don't know what's wrong with me stressed with work and home life is just getting me down.

Well, one reason you are tired is from not taking iron and B12.  The ASMBS says ALL RNY patients need B12 supplements - due to lack of stomach acid and intrinsic factor in your pouch, you can't absorb B12 from food anymore.  You need a sublingual, nasal spray, or shots.  As far as iron goes, there might be enough iron in your multi if you don't menstruate, but maybe not.  If you menstruate, the ASMBS says you will definitely need additional iron.

By the way, low B12 also causes depression and a lack of feeling motivated.

Wow, Thank you I did not know that about the B12 I thought it was only if your labs were off that you would take it.  Do you recommend a certain B12?

Thank you

Any brand of sublingual is fine.  It dissolves under your tongue.  The ASMBS used to recommend 350-500 mcg a day but now they say many patients need 1000 mcg a day.

If you prefer, there is a prescription nasal spray you do once a week.

I prefer the shots personally.  Many people just need them once a month but I do mine once a week.

Thank you again, do you have to get a prescription from your dr for the shots?

Yep.  You can actually get the shots done at your doctor's, if you want, but you can also get a script and fill it at any pharmacy and then do them yourself at home.  It's easy to do.

Excuses are just that - excuses!   If you want to get off your butt and get out there you will - I exercise in sun, rain, snow, whatever Colorado weather sends ...   As long as it's not dangerous, and I don't know of anyone who actually died from exercising in the rain, then it's just an excuse!!!

Tired?   We all get tired!  You'll be surprised at how GOOD exercise will make you feel - physically, mentally and emotionally.

You have a finite window to be successful - lose the weight and learn good habits so you can keep it off - why would you not go for it wholeheartedly?
