Constipation - my apologies if you find this gross.

I am just shy of month out of surgery and have lost 30 lbs.  I am still drinking mostly protein drinks.  I am on the second week of horrific constipation.  I am putting benefiber in my water, miralax in my water.  I am taking a stool softener, you name it.  Last weekend I had to try an enema with no luck. Doctor suggested magnesium citrate.  It helped but three days late I am in the same boat.  Any suggestions?

If magnesium citrate was the only thing that worked for me, then that is what I would use.  The situation should improve when you start eating more solid foods.

Know that you are not alone. This has been my biggest challenge since surgery on 7/31. One time I had to take 4 doses of miralax to get the deed done. It. Worker, without much pain. Now I need to take it about every three or four days to avoid trouble. I understand some take it daily. My surgeon warned of diarrhea should I do that, so I monitor and take as soon as I feel constipated.  Best of luck.

I take daily Miralax. Every day. I found how much is enough but not too much. Fiber actually constipate me. So I eat food with fiber but I don't add any more fiber.

I also take magnesium with my calcium... And make sure to drink enough water..I prevent constipation by taking things every day.

This is extremely common. Many consider giving themselves an episiotomy.

just experiment with the various "treatments" or combos of treatments to see what works for you.  I'm now taking Benefiber twice a day, 800 mg of calcium citrate every day, and a dose of Miralax a couple of times a week whether I need it or not.  I haven't had any trouble with constipation in awhile.

I meant 800 mg of magnesium citrate - not calcium citrate!  (although I take that, too!)

Milk of magnesia is my best friend for constipation...  1fluid ounce with lots of water and it works like a charm, it's liquid and tastes like chalk but it works the best for me

i use Miralax, Milk of Magnesia, and stool softeners as needed.  I used Milk of Magnesia to get things moving, and then Miralax to keep it going.

Constipation is not uncommon, but once you begin to add solid foods into your diet things should be easier.

Ducolax tabs is what has helped me  when I needed something. It is the easiest thing I have found that works and gets me moving.
