After much research and reading 100's of post.  We have talked to many doctors also and check out their website, spoke with some of their patients etc.

My son and I agreed on Dr. Kelly in TJ mexico.  The coordinator is trying to help us get a discount our long flight.  I was impressed by how my questions were answered and how they spoke with my son.

They offer an in house financing.  He is 1500 dollars  more than Dr.Almanza but that is OK.  I couldn't take all the drama with Dr. Almanza but I am not saying he is a bad surgeon.

I have found nothing negative about Dr. Kelly at all.  He is doing the VSG on my 22 yr old son for $5600, flight not included.  I stay with him for free in hosptial for 2 nights and hotel for 2 nights.  I also purchase my own food.

Monday we go to apply for passports then start scheduling flight and surgery time.  If anyone has anything they think I should know, please chime in.

In my opinion you made a good decision. I was sleeved by Dr Kelly in February and everything went great. I'm 25 years old and I'm happy I decided to loose weight now rather than be miresable for years to come. At the hospital they offer food for the companion but it seems to be healthy vegetarian food as my husband told me. He found many nearby places where to eat and he really enjoyed that part. There's also restaurants close to the hotel where you can walk to. The bed for the companion was very comfy which is why I decided to sleep there instead of the hospital bed with the exception of the night of surgery. Dr kelly was awsome I still keep in touch with Trish as she calls me and asks how I'm doing also my coordinator. Good luck to your son and you I'm sure you will have a great experience also.

Oh, thank you so much.  I hope others will chime with their experiences.  I read these to my son over the phone.  He is in Ohio and I am on Fort Myers Beach Florida.  I forward alot to him in e-mail.  This helps him feel more comfortable.

At first as a young person does (age 22) money appears to be the biggest issure untill mom (me) lol points out risk, deaths, infections, type of facility, care etc.  As studies have shown it takes a man 2 weeks to get the point where woman usually get it now.

I am afraid of going out of the US but so many here have done so with no problems.  My son lives wiht my mother to take care of her as a promise to my father which of whom passed 6 months ago.

He is a good boy and I want him to have life now instead of being miserable for years and developing horrible problems as those years pass.  Being self paid we don't have to wait till he has so many co-morbidities that he can move or livve at all which is stupid IMO.

Our new insurance has a WLS exclusion.  So self pay is our only option.

I wish you continued luck and again thank you for posting.

Nothing about his skill or experience...just the Spanish?  In Mexico your "first last name" is the same as the "American last name," and your "second last name" is your mother's maiden name.

So I would have called him "Dr. Ramos."  Does he go by "Kelly?"

His coordinator says to call him Dr. Kelly short for Dr. Ricardo Ramos Kelly.  He speaks english well thank God.

We are still researching and taking any input before signing any papers.

I personally have chosen Dr. Moses Sheih her in SWF.  He is a bariatric surgeon/general surgeon/PS and he just did my severe ventral hernia repair with abd muscle wall repair then a panniculectomy with anchor cut TT.  I am more than happy with his technique and after care.

He can do my son for 13, 900 at Holy Cross in Holiwood Florida or we could stay here in Fort myers and have it done at Lee Memorial for 18,000 (a big difference).  But my son is 22 and he has final decision in this.

At least we both found a surgeon that we could agree on if not using my first choice Dr. Sheih.  I believe Dr. Kelly can do a good job.

The reason I aked wasn't (BTW) to start teaching Spanish.  Just that when looking up comments, look for Ramos, too.

Thanks Ms. Cal

I wish you could come here and teach me spanish cause Fort Myers is becoming a mini Mexico lol.

Oh, BTW I wasn't being rude back to you I hope. I love reading your post on DS board. I have learned alot from you and others.

To date I have lost 185 pounds. Hope you are doing well.
