I am 6 weeks out and I'm not very hungry I'm doing what I'm suppose to do but I'm worried because I'm not getting in enough calories. I'm getting between 550 - 700 a day on a good day but at least 3 days a week it's more like 500 cal. I'm getting in 60 -70 g of protein a day. I'm I on the right track?

You're on the right track. It takes most of us months to get near 800. Keep your protein and water high. You can research starvation mode- in my opinion its bogus. Keep up the good work!

You sound on track. I can't stress the importance of taking your vitamins daily. I didn't do this as well as I should have and am paying for it now that I am at goal. Good luck with your journey.

May I ask how you're paying for it?  I'm taking mine--just curious!

Starvation mode as its usually referred to doesn't apply to WLS patients since that's basically what we are signing up for .....

There are optimal nutrition levels that our bodies would perform best at, and when you dip below that, your body starts to act a little weird (ie metabolism might slow a little) but we aren't trying to achieve an optimal nutritional balance when we are trying to lose a lot of weight.

You're doing great! I rarely got to 700-800 calories in the first six months.  Your body is doing exactly what your surgeon wants, she'd the pounds.  Use this time to get off as much weight as possible. You'll be so happy that you did.

You're on the right track. When we have hoards of fat to burn, our bodies do not go into starvation mode. I rarely got in 600 calories for the first 4 months, and only around 4-5 months did I hit close to 700-900 and that took a lot of work for me to hit those numbers and I was close to goal at that point.

This explains it:

You are right on track, don't worry. Starvation mode is a myth. Just keep your protein up.

I'm curious about that. My trainer says that if you don't eat enough, your metabolism will slow down and not burn the fat as well. He claims exercise helps with that. I'm sort of divided since there isn't any conclusive data.

you are doing fine. be thankful that you are not hungry. not sure what you mean by starvation mode but you won't damage yourself with what you are doing. if you mean a resistance to losing weight due to too few calories, my surgeon says thats a myth.

congrats on your success. diane
