For me ice chips were fine, but gum is a big no-no post surgery.

WHAT ABOUT BEFORE SURGERY??? I'M ON A FIVE DAY CLEAR LIQUID BEFORE SURGERY...

 My doc said the only reason they tell you not to chew gum after is b/c it stimulates your mouth and for some people that makes them want to eat... I say yes for both before and after, but I'm not a doc. Good Luck!
