Yogurt and oatmeal advice please? Your favorites?
oatmeal is not low carb. I tried a protein oatmeal from Bariatric Pantry and two things were not good about it. First, it is processed food and you should be trying to eat as close to whole and natural as you can. Second, I thought the taste was disgusting. For me, oatmeal just isn't one of my choices especially in weight loss. Maintenance maybe occassionally.
Fage plain yogurt is my fave. I add stevia and one or two strawberries chopped.
My Nutritionist said we can have 1/2 of dry regular or Quacker weight control oatmeal, because it does not have as many grams of sugar as the other regular oatmeals and it also has 7 grams of protien and 6 grams of fiber. Its 100 whole grain. Those are pretty good. I am on my last week of my pre-op op diet and that is one of the not so many things on our list. It hasn't affected my weight loss at all since i started and lost 11 pounds since the 31st. It only comes in maple& brown sugar, cinnamon and banana bread if you want the variety pack. It has 29 grams of carbs but its a complex carb, so its not like its bad.
At 29 g carbs and 6 g fiber, that is still 23 doing net and would be the whole days worth. We couldn't have any of the flavored to many carbs to sweetening.
The only oatmeal allowed post-op was the instant regular, no sugar, and thinned way down. I tried once and it sure wasn't worth the carbs. Traded it for Oikos organic Greek vanilla yogurt. 8 oz; 160 cal protein 22g, carbs 18g. Still high in carbs but, for 1/3 less carbs you are getting 3X the protein. I also use cottage cheese. High protein to carb ratio too.
Now on real food, I try to stick to pure protein. Which is what I did pre-op!
