Hi everyone, just wanted some of your (valued) opinions.  I started this journey at 327 lbs.  I have lost 116 lbs (thank you Lord).  When I first started, my surgeon, who I had a feeling doubted my ability to be successful, said that he would be thrilled if I got under 200 lbs.  I always said that I thought 180 would be a great goal for me (I am 5'8" and have a large build and am muscular, when I was 180 in high school I was a size 10-12 and very happy) The last time I saw him he was shocked at my success.  He now says he thinks I can get to 165!!  I think that is nuts! I am 41 and a mother of three!  Even in high school, a teenager working out and playing sports I could not get under 170!  Anyone else close to my stats??

I am nowhere close to your stats. I am short, was considered a lightweight, and did not lose the amount of weight you have already lost. Congratulations on your success. I can comment on how you can probably achieve more than you or your doctor ever dreamed. I am currently at a weight that is lower than I have ever weighed in adulthood. I am 5 ft 2 in with average frame and I am floating between 119 and 121 lb. in maintenance for the past 5 weeks. The doctor's goal for me was 130-139. I am so glad I did not let that limit me. I really determined where I wanted to be based on how I look, how I feel and what a normal BMI is for someone my height. I am 53 yrs old. Shoot for the best you can do. Don't be average and don't let numbers limit you. Evaluate based on how you look and feel as you are losing. Don't go into maintenance mode too early cuz once you do, you will lose your zest and vision for weight loss mode.

I'm 5'8" with a large frame (size 12-13 feet, if you can picture that sad scenario), but I'm 55yo.  My surgeon's goal for me was also to get to 200 lbs.  Currently my goal is 190, but if I can go lower I will do so.

You still have youth on your side, so go for it if you are healthy and comfortable.

I think you can do it!!!

My goal is 135... I dont EVER remember being 135lbs. My lowest weight ever was about 160, and that didn't last long... I averaged at 185lbs during my "skinny" time and I was a size 12 as well. Would I be happy to be there again? YEAH! I would be very satisfied... but I am going for gold!

If your doctor believes you can (especially after doubting you) then I think you can too!! I think you can do it, if it is something you want! And, if you dont like being that small, you have rebound weight. (part of why I am going to 135... for the rebound weight because I know I will be very happy at 150. but getting to 135 would just be nice to see)

You are doing exactly what I am!  I am setting a goal much lower than I will be happy maintaining at.  I want to see if I can get there just to see if I can.  Our numbers are the same, too... 135 and 150.  Must be the in the stars since we were both sleeved on the 10th!

The only person who limits you is YOU.  Bare in mind that it's much easier to put on weight than lose it, so if you get to 180 and decide you'd like to go lower, just do it.  Your goal weight isn't an end all, be all.  It can change.

I was 152ish for my wedding a couple years ago.  It was the smallest I'd been as an adult, and I was thrilled with the way I looked but I had wanted to be smaller and I just couldn't get there.  My original goal weight for this surgery was 150, which put me slightly below the top of a healthy BMI for my 5'6 body.  I got there at 8 months, and I knew I wanted to be thinner.  I'm 32, I have a toddler, and I currently weight 138.8lbs.  I'm 5.2lbs short of my revised goal, and never did I truly think I could be so small but it actually works much better for my frame size (I'm built on the smaller size of average).  I'll continue readjusting until I find my happy weight (both how I look and how I maintain) once I reach my revised goal.

Don't sell yourself short, that's all I'm saying.  If you find you're happy at 180, then that's fantastic.  If you find you'd like to go a bit thinner, you can definitely get to 165.  I'm cheering you on whatever you decide :)

You might find that when you hit 180 the weight is still coming off, see how you feel when you hit 180.  Go for what will make you happy.
