Will my surgery have to be rescheduled???

I am scheduled for surgery on next Monday, 7/29.  Beginning last week, I started feeling bad (sneezing and congestion from allergies).  It became worst over the weekend (that hurting chest cough).  Went to my PCP today and as I suspected, I have an upper respiratory infection.  I was subscribed an antibiotic which should make me feel better but I am wondering will this delay me having my surgery next week.

I did call my surgeon and I am just waiting to hear back.

I have delayed surgery once because I needed to travel for work so it will be a little disappointing if I have to delay it again

Personally I would think you would be better by than, but it's going to be your surgeons call. Good Luck and hopefully they won't have to reschedule!

I think I should be better also. I want to do what's best for my health. I'm just ready to start my new life.

In my pre-op instructions it says if you have an upper respiratory infection the weeks before surgery you have a greater chance at pneumonia.

Make sure your surgeon knows about it, and let him decide.  :)

My pre-op info did not include that but I can see that as a possibility. The nurse called me back and said that I will take a chest X-ray on Friday when I do my labs. If there are any concerns with the X-ray we will discuss and make a decision from there to either delay or take another X-ray Monday morning before surgery to ensure the infection is clear.

Thanks.
