My sleeve date was 2 weeks ago today (11/25).  I met with the physician today; my first appointment post-op.  He told me that the surgery went very well; one of the best that they had performed.  As of today I have lost 24 pounds.  He told me that he expects that I will loose about 100 lbs within 4 months?????  And that the weight loss will increase once I am moved up to soft foods.  Can anyone out there share their weight loss at 4 months and also explain why you loose more weight once you are on a soft diet verses the liquid diet?

Numbers are in my signature.  Remember, everyone's mileage will vary.

However, IMAO, while I think it's highly likely you'll post good numbers if you follow the program, 100 pounds in four months seems very unlikely to me.  I just want to point that out so you're not setting yourself up for disappointment.  There may be some extreme cases, but I can't recall anyone who has posted about 100 pounds in four months.  I only remember one that got close and I believe they were going pretty hard core on the exercise.

Either way, follow the program and you'll do fine in the long run.  So what if it takes longer, it's still a relatively short period all things considered.

Maybe I should amend my answer to include:  Are you counting the weight you've lost already?  If you're asking about whether you could be at 100 pounds total lost in four more months including the 30 or so you've lost already, then you might get closer.  If you meant 100 pounds from where you're at now, I stick with my previous answer.

Everyone is so very different. I am a slow but steady loser. I lost 50 pounds in 4.5 months. I am satisfied. Good luck to you.

I think it is very possible for you to lose 100 in 4 months.  You are starting at a higher BMI than myself and the other posters here so I would take that into consideration.  I would also maximize the first 6 months (or the honeymoon phase) by eating as few carbs as possible and get in as much protein and water as you can.  You can wait to introduce the potatoes, rice, pasta and starchy veggies back into your diet after you reach goal.  It doesn't take long to get to goal, especially if you follow your docs orders.  It's people that start having mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, oatmeal and all those other soft mushy carbs in the very beginning that I see have a hard time making it to goal.  Stick to eggs, cheeses, lean meats & high protein beans and grains, such as lentils or quinoa.  Good luck and don't beat yourself up if you don't hit 100 lbs. in 4 months, it will happen soon enough!

I'm pleased that your surgery went well.  I think 100 pounds in 4 months would be exceptional.  I lost about 60 pounds in 4 months.  90 pounds in 6 months.  But even so, once you start losing, you'll be on the way, and does it really matter if it takes 4 months or 8 months to lose 100 pounds?  in either case, you'll get there.

best wishes,

Carol

I have lost just under 60 lbs in 2 months, so I'm on track assuming - and it's a big assumption - things stay at this pace. Most people seem to lose at a lesser rate after a few months out. Steady, but less fast. That said, I think you can do it, especially starting at a higher bmi. But everyone seems to lose torally differently and at different rates. Regardless of how long it takes, I'm sure you can meet your foals if you stay on plan. Good luck. Now I just have to try to make sure I can keep up my progress!

I should say, just over 50 since surgery but just under 60 since I first started the road to surgery a month before surgery.

I know I didn't start at the same weight as you did, but 100 lbs in 4 months seems like a lot to me. I have lost about 65 pounds since June. I sometimes wonder if the doctors don't give you a number that is probably a little out of reach to keep you motivated to lose as much as possible. When I went to my one month follow up, my doctor said that I was losing "slower than average," having lost only 12 pounds. At my three month, I had lost only 20 more pounds, but I was told I was doing exceptionally well, and that I had lost 10% more than the average person in my height and initial weight range. I was confused, considering the dr. seemed disappointed at my one month.

Anyway, I can't explain why the weight loss varies between diets. Sorry.
