4 Year Surgery Anniversary

Saturday, July 18th, I celebrated my 4 year surgiversary!  I just re-read my blog that I wrote leading up to and during the year following my surgery and wow - what an amazing time to reflect and recall what it was like to approach surgery, break up with food as my best friend and to start seeing and feeling results!  My only regret? Not doing it sooner! 

Since surgery I have settled in to a new healthy lifestyle. I eat Paleo about 80% of the time and supplement with Isagenix shakes. This gives me a great framework to feed my muscles, get my fruits and veg in and avoid the stuff I know I need to avoid - sugars, dairy and gluten - that fill me up so I can't eat the healthy stuff.  I spent a couple of years weight lifting with a trainer and running, starting with a 5k and loving it so much that I ran many 10ks, half marathons and finally a full marathon in 2013.  I got bored though and joined a Crossfit gym in January and it was the final piece to my fitness puzzle. I love working out every day, lifting weights, learning new gymnastic-type skills, doing really tough cardio workouts and meeting other fitness-minded people. 

Once I dropped down to my lowest weight of 169, I quickly bounced back up to around 175. I find it is most doable to maintain between 172-180. I could weigh less I am sure but my body is happy, I look good in my clothes, I have energy and I can enjoy a treat sometimes without a major meltdown.  I don’t count calories or weigh more often than once every couple of months but I know when my clothes start to get a little snug and then I crank the water, increase the veg and protein and add in a little more cardio. I eat normal sized portions now, as in, what a normal portion SHOULD be, and am quite full on that. I can eat about 6 oz of meat at a time, or around 3 eggs with some sweet potatoes. Rice is problematic for me for some reason and I experience some pretty intense dumping if I eat more than a little bit of ice cream of any kind of sweet dairy item. I don’t overeat because I am used to how it feels when I eat just one too many bites and I avoid it like the plague.  I can eat chips or popcorn with no limits though – definitely have to stay far away from them or I can overdo it. 

Every single day I get up I make it my goal to work out or be active in some way, eat clean healthy food and take care of me first. I get my vitamins and water in religiously. I have energy to spare. I feel amazing. I am so happy I had my sleeve surgery and so grateful for the support along the way to keep me accountable and give me a reason to keep pushing!

I too am over 4 yrs out and I agree you have to make it a priority to work out and follow your nutrition plan.  It becomes a habit/routine doesn't it.
