Good morning everyone!!!

Sorry if this has been asked before but I saw this mentioned several times on another site and wanted to check here because I didn't think it happened to us sleevers.k

Do we experience dumping syndrome? I thought only bypass people experienced this. I thought dumping was because of the malabsorbtion aspect of the bypassing of the intestines along with eating sugar or highly processed carbs.

So do we or don't we that is my question!

While it is technically possible for anyone to dump - surgery or not, the dumping from RNY is not something that happens with the sleeve.

Your intestines have not been altered and you still have your pyloric valve that keeps food from dumping out of your stomach.

Thanks that's how I understood it but I swear there was three posts today of sleevers saying they had a dumping episode this weekend.  Want to say something but won't lol!!

The technical term for dumping is rapid gastric emptying. If you have a pyloric valve that functions properly, it's pretty rare to dump. That's why it happens to RNYers.

Lots of people think they dump, even RNYers, but it's usually some other type of gastric distress.

An actual dumping episode isn't just uncomfortable, it's completely debilitating, a wish-you-would-just-hurry-up-and-die event.

There are some VSGers who claim dumping symptoms.  I doubt it could be the same as the RNY dumping syndrome.

When I had my first gallstone attack, it mimicked dumping syndrome symptoms. It might be that people are actually experiencing gallbladder problems, which are extremely common among WLS patients, and mistaking it for dumping.

I also doubted it but didn't want to rock the boat especially without clarification lol! It's crazy how much misinformation is out there, thanks for the response!

When I occasionally eat something richer than my normal, low-fat, no-sugar foods, I feel ill for a few hours, but I chalk that up to my body being no longer accustomed to fatty foods. I have a friend who is a bariatric nurse. She told me about an RNY patient and friend who had a dumping incident as they were walking back to their car. The patient had to lie down on the dirty public parking garage floor until it passed. Now THAT'S dumping syndrome!

Psychoticparrot,

I had RNY 8 months ago. Last month I was in the garage after eating chicken too fast. I passed out in the garage and hurt my head pretty bad. So my question to you was that dumping or did I just get up too fast. I see my surgeon in October so I will ask her also. Thanks for your advice.
