As a child I was a healthy weight. It wasn't until my teen years that I started putting on the pounds. I came from a healthy eating, active family and my mother couldn't understand why I was gaining weight so she took me to our family doctor. He was baffled as well, and tests that were issued all came back normal.
I continued gaining weight at a steady pace. When I started birth control for my upcoming marriage, my weight really started getting bad. I also had many other symptoms such as acne, excess hair (in all the wrong places), losing hair (in all the right places) :) as well as many other things. Fast forward to 2003 when my Ob-Gyn diagnosed me (finally!) with PCOS and Insulin Resistance (IR). Finally all my symptoms and weight problems finally had a name! The treatment for PCOS and IR was to lose weight.
Since then it has been an uphill battle trying to do just that. Since I have gained so much weight before I was diagnosed, my hormones are seriously out of whack. I have tried many diets, etc trying to regain control, but I can never keep the weight off long term. My doctors both agree that WLS will be good to bring me back to a normal weight and hopefully my PCOS and IR symptoms will be relieved.
