Lisa I am so glad to hear you are ok. I am so sorry that you ran into this complication and pray that you have the strength to get 100% healthy. I know you must feel pretty down and can only imagine how sad you must feel but, I believe that everything happens for a reason and am so glad to hear that you were in good hands and were well taken care of. I sincerely hope that you are back to 100% soon and I hope to see you continue to write here. I would like you to know that I felt your profile was so informative and I actually read it over and over as I began my journey for WLS and even printed your profile and took it with me to some of my appts to read. (I know I was pretty obsessed with WLS at the time and was reading everything I could get my hands on!:) Good luck to you!

Hi Lisa -- Thanks for letting everybody know what happened. I am so sorry you developed such a frightening complication before you could even have surgery, but very glad that they recognized it early and that you are home and okay. I wish you the very best in deciding how to proceed now, whether or not you decide to continue pursuing surgery. Please hang in there, you have done really well on your own so far. {{{HUGS}}}

Well I have been home from the hospital 5 days (after a 7 day stay) and wanted to update everyone. First of all I did NOT have surgery, they aborted the procedure after I had a severe reaction to the Anethesia. It seems I have a condition call Malignant Hyperthermia, MH for short. It is a very rare and serious condition, that if not caught early and treated immediately results in death 80% of the time. Fortunately my Dr.s recognized the symptoms immediately after administering the anethesia and paralyzing agent and aborted the surgery. With this condition your muscles go "rigid" and start breaking down, which puts extreme stress on your kidneys, your temperature starts shooting up very quickly and has been known to reach 110 degrees, which can result is brain damage, the heart also starts a tachacardia thing as well. None of this fun. I feel very blessed that the Lord was with me and my Dr.s that they caught it, started treatment and I responded as well as I did. It was a very scary time as I came within minutes of dying...which is still something I am struggling with. That I didn't have the surgery is also causing me a great deal of depression as I was so ready for it and so looking forward to this life changing journey. I find myself crying a great deal and being very sad. It will be atleast 5-6 months before I could even attempt surgery again, and with my new found condition and viewing "elective" surgery differently. I can be given anethesia, but not volitile gas, whish is what is usually ised in general anethesia. I would have to go to a hospital, equiped with special anethesia equipment and have a team of Anethesioligists and be in ICU for days etc...I am going to have to go to either Mayo Clinic in MN, a Hospital in Los Angeles or Bethesda MD for a special muscle biopsy to see what anethesia's I can have. I also have to see a Neurologist to make sure I don't have any other muscular conditions. I plan on being home atleat one more week, but it might be two as I am still very weak and tired. I still have random pain and still run a low grade fever from time to time. Looks like I will have to try and battle this weight another way, and that depresses me so ,as I have already tried all the other ways and am still sitting here morbidly obese. I have lost about 18 pounds from my highest weight of 248, which does provide some hope. I have no appetite and nothing taste good....if that would only last 6 months, I might be able to do this LOL!!! I wish everyone having this surgery the very best....here I was concerned about risks with a 1 in 330 chance and ended up with a condition that is 1 in 65,000....who knew!!! I know that I will get through this, but must say that right now it is so hard. I wish all of you the very best and pray for uncomplicated, easy surgeries and recoveries for all. I'll write more later.
