I'd try not to be too worried about what the tech said. They are not supposed to say anything, but I've had two techs give me info - once helped, once freaked me out. When I had a gallbaldder ultrasound the tech said she wasn't supposed to tell me, but confirmed I had gallstones, which was just what I wanted to hear - a reason for my pain and a way to fix it! The other time was when I was having an OB ultrasound. When I was looking at the screen I could see things pretty clearly. I said "Is that the baby's head?" The tech said yes. I said "Is that a huge hole in the baby's head?" She didn't say anything for a long time, then said "yes." Then she went to get the doctor and I lost it. I tried holding my breath so I wouldn't get completely hysterical. When the doc came in he was all happy and fine. When he said everything looked fine - I said "What about that big hole in her head?" He said "That's just where the skull's development is at this stage - 100% normal." Man, I wanted to kill that tech for freaking me out. The second example is why techs are not supposed to say anything. The tech knew it was normal, but was not supposed to be saying anything, and she got stuck because if she told me the hole was normal, and I wound up with an abnormal baby, the hospital is theoretically liable, but by only having the doc give the patient info, he is the one liable.
Who knows, maybe your tech didn't recognize what he was seeing, or maybe the amount of leakage is trivial and nothing to stop your surgery. Best wishes!
Let us know how it turns out!
