Hi I am Janis, I live in Cashmere. I am interested in setting up a support group for pre and post op WLS patients in the valley, you would be a welcome addition if you would like to join me and my Sis. I am in the process of trying to get in touch with all the WLS patients in the area to see what kind of interest there might be out there. Do you know of anyone who is considering WLS or is Post Op who might be interested in a local support group? I envision in addition to the moral support and encouragement the opportunity to sample all the bariatric food and supplement products at the group meetings. My sisters biggest post op complaint was finding palatable high protein supplements and vitamins that were actually effective. I also envision the opportunity to compare notes on Doctors who are not only educated in caring for bariatric patients in the long term but also who truly understand what we endure as morbidly obese persons, the prejudice, the mis-conceptions, the ignorance. And who are supportive of bariatric surgery for those people who really do need it. I would like to be able to direct prospective WLS patients to Doctors, Psychologists, Nutritionists, etc who are knowledgeable, skilled, empathetic and supportive of our needs in our quest for healthier bodies and happier lives. I look forward to hearing from you. Janis Hayden [email protected]

I HEARD FROM MY REGULAR DOCTOR AND SHE SAID THAT THE TECH MUST HAVE READ IT WRONG AND MY VALVE WAS NOT LEAKING AND TO HAVE A GOOD POSITIVE ATTITUDE. I AM GOING TO MET WITH THE CARDIO ON TUES JUST FOR THAT SECOND OPINION BUT NOT HAS FRANTIC. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HAPPY THOUGHTS. ESPECIALY THE PERSON IN OHIO. I TRIED TO EMAIL YOU BUT IT WAS KICKED BACK. I HAVE ANOTHER EMAIL ALSO, [email protected]. Thank you,

I'd try not to be too worried about what the tech said. They are not supposed to say anything, but I've had two techs give me info - once helped, once freaked me out. When I had a gallbaldder ultrasound the tech said she wasn't supposed to tell me, but confirmed I had gallstones, which was just what I wanted to hear - a reason for my pain and a way to fix it! The other time was when I was having an OB ultrasound. When I was looking at the screen I could see things pretty clearly. I said "Is that the baby's head?" The tech said yes. I said "Is that a huge hole in the baby's head?" She didn't say anything for a long time, then said "yes." Then she went to get the doctor and I lost it. I tried holding my breath so I wouldn't get completely hysterical. When the doc came in he was all happy and fine. When he said everything looked fine - I said "What about that big hole in her head?" He said "That's just where the skull's development is at this stage - 100% normal." Man, I wanted to kill that tech for freaking me out. The second example is why techs are not supposed to say anything. The tech knew it was normal, but was not supposed to be saying anything, and she got stuck because if she told me the hole was normal, and I wound up with an abnormal baby, the hospital is theoretically liable, but by only having the doc give the patient info, he is the one liable. Who knows, maybe your tech didn't recognize what he was seeing, or maybe the amount of leakage is trivial and nothing to stop your surgery. Best wishes! Let us know how it turns out!

It won't be long for you now. I can not promise that this is an easy thing, But I can tell you. It is worth it. My life has changed so much since my WLS on June 20th, 2001. I am down 130 pounds. I feel 20 years younger and my husband Ed and I can do so many things together now. I no longer sit and watch on the side lines. I am again a part of my family. That is what makes it worth it, the discovery of life again. Good Luck to you. Heal fast the world is waiting on the new and improved you.
