8 months post op and 140 pounds gone. I can walk now without a cane and I can shop now without using a scooter. 4 weeks ago i found I was able to drive a vehicle again. What a sense of freedom and independence!!! I can stand up now to put on my make up and I can even tie my own shoes again! YiPPIE! So many little things in life that everyone takes for granted i had lost and am now finding again. Life is good and I expect it to only become better. Each day I try to push myself to do a bit more than the day before. I still have a long way to go but i am getting there. It is a great & exciting feeling to be able to actually fit into smaller clothing. This is the first time in my life that I have been able to shop for smaller clothing. In the past it was the rule that I had to look for larger clothing. I can now fit into the chairs that are in most public places and my hips no longer feel pinned in when i do sit in these chairs. I have so many little victories. I thank God each day for this surgery and for the freedom it has given me so far. I also thank God for this message board and a place for all to come who have these same concerns & are dealing with these same issues.

Hi Patricia: I just wanted to drop by and say congratulations on your recent surgery. I am sorry you were given such wrong information by the nurse but glad now that things are better. Try not to get discouraged by how much weight you have to lose. It will come off in time. Once you lose some you will be able to do more and excersize more and the weight will "melt off". You will start to feel so good. I am so happy for you and wish you so much success on your future. You are now a "loser" like so many others, haha. I had my surgery on 3/27/03 and am down 112 pounds so far. I started at 358# and down to 246 today. Unreal to me. I have energy I never knew was possible. haha. Please feel free to e-mail me if you would like to. May God Bless you and keep you safe, take care,

Thank you all for your prayers and wonderful support. I had my surgery on August 5,2003. Dr. Thomas Helling was my surgeon. I was discharged from the hospital on friday august 8th. My weight before surgery was 509.5 lbs. I am not real sure how to use this format in here or how to add photos but as soon as i get it figured out i will do so. The day i was discharged from the hospital the nurse there told me i had to eat three medication cups full of food 3 times a day or my new pouch would close up and i would have to come back and have the surgery all over again. I tried all weekend to do that but became sick. I did not vomit but i had a terrible pressure in my chest and felt sweaty and very gassy, belching, ect. Today i finally had the good sense to call the drs office and ask the dietician about the misinformation i was given and she said for me to eat until i am full but not to eat 3 medication cups full if i am full stop when i am full. She said the nurses needed " inserviced" and i agree because i nearly made myself sick trying to do what i was told. I am eating 3 bites at one sitting, it takes me about 30 minutes but not trying to force 3 medication cups of food down myself and am feeling much better today. I am being careful to get in my water and milk. Trying very hard to be compliant with what the drs nurses and dietician has told me to do. As you can see by my starting weight i have a long way to go. Your continued prayers and thoughts would be much appreciated and as soon as i can figure out how to navigate around in this site i will do more posting. God bless you all and thank you
