"I was impressed with his kindness and interest in really listening to my experiences and my goals for this surgery. He was willing to take me on, even with major medical complications he would have to deal with. He was willing to try when others were not. He was honest and very explicit about what to expect and what my options would be. My initial impressions were very good, and my appreciation and respect for this surgeon has only grown over time. What I liked best was his attention to detail and precision thinking. He is a Christian man who pratices his faith through action and concern, that is important to me. Aftercare, risks, diet and exercise was emphasized for one year prior to the surgery, but it was very different post-surgically. Things have changed, the diet was different than we were taught, side-effects and the "tricks" for eating successfully were not discussed till problems came up. I would have liked more information on the post-surgical experiences, even though it seems everyone is very different. That in itself I find facinating. Yes, there is a structured aftercare program and a monthly suppor group which is very helpful. Dr. Severeson and his nursing staff were responsive to any phone calls with questions after surgery. There are 3 surgeons in Crosby who work together on this type of surgery. All three docs are great to work with. I was pleased with the immediate follow-up after surgery. Dr. Severson was in every day, even on a holiday weekend to check my status. When he wasn't there, another one of the surgeons took his place and they were all well informed of the details of my case. There seems to be very good communication between all of the medical team members in this group. Both Dr. Severson's surgical competence and bed side manner are great. He shows great compassion for his patients and listens to them and addresses their concerns. My overall rating for Dr. Severson on a scale of 1 (poor) to 10 (great) would be a "10" no question about it."
