Today I am almost 8 weeks post op and I feel great! I have lost a total of 32lbs. It is going slow but I am happy. The only problem that I have is with still learning how to taste food and the lack of feeling hungry which makes the enzymes in my stomach churn.I drink as often as I can but water still seems to go straight to the bathroom and have lost taste for any type of meat. Have become a vegetarian. My doctor says I should not worry. My clothes are starting to hang and have gone to clothes that I have not worn in 4 years.

Have been back to work now for three days. No train smashes. Things are looking better, I even flew to another province and look forward to a great future with God's blessings.

Thank you all for the wonderful messages of encouragement, your prayers, I am safely home. Your thoughts, comments and uplifting messages brought tears to my eyes, because, I never knew there was a community of such caring people. My closest family member is in New York and because this is still a new procedure in South Africa, you get such negative comments that you decide, you will change your life with or without that support. The stares are cruel, the jokes even from close family members hurt, and it is only those that understand what it is to walk in an overweight persons shoes understand the pain. The worst joke that I got from a very close family friend was that, if it was in the 1800's I would have been sent overseas as another Sakie Baartman. I am not sure whether some of you have read about the woman who was taken to London and France and shown off as a freak because of her behind? Oops that sent me to the bathroom to cry and that is when i decided with or without I am doing it. I have been back home now for two days, I am walking and am not much in pain. For the first 7 days I am on a liquid diet which gives me diarrhoea. otherwise I am feeling fine. I go back to take out the stitches on Tuesday.

Hi Nomgcobo Hope you had a safe journey to the other side. Keep us posted "Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, any one can start from now and make a brand new ending." The admitting is often very difficult." ~ Julia Cameron "The block of granite which was an obstacle in the pathway of the weak becomes a stepping-stone in the pathway of the strong.
