Hi, everybody! This is Linda Simonian. First of all, let me thank you for all your good wishes and support. I really found comfort in the words and feelings that you shared with me. Now for the update. I had my RNY proximal on 5/5/03. I am just now getting to be pain free. I was really unprepared for the amount of pain ( not soreness, not discomfort) but real knifelike, burning pain in the lower left side of my abdomen. I had a reaction to the pain medication in the hospital and developed severe nausea to go along with the pain. The nurses used three antinausea medications which did not work before they took me off the pain pump. The nausea subsided but the pain persisted. Even after I came home the knifelike, burning, soul wreching pain was still there, even on pain medications. But, after exactly one week after my surgery I was relatively pain free. It is now a week and a half post op and I feel so much better. I always thought I had a good pain tolerance since I had two beautiful children without any pain medictions or epidural at all. Was I worng!!! Now for the good part. I'm learning how to eat again. The protein shakes are very good. I'm eating sort of muchy food like finely flaked tuna fish and lite mayo, egg salad, scrambled egg and yogurt. The food tastes so good but I'm full so fast. I WAS NEVER FULL!!!! I lost 14 pounds in a week and a half ( weighed in at Dr. Garbers' office). I would take me a month and a half instead of a week and a half to lose that much weight previously!!! All in all, I'm not sorry I had this surgery and look forward to being on the losin side!!!

Best wishes for your surgery. May your anesthesiologist give you a great cocktail, may your surgeon’s hands be ever steady and may you learn how to use your trusty pump early on!! One day 2, get up right away and walk, walk, walk, cough, belch, pee, rest, walk, walk, burp, walk, fart, rest, cough. Repeat all day and the following days for a speedy release. P.S. Try to use your thighs when getting out of the bed. And remember your lip balm! That and slippers are all you need!! Forget anything to read as you’ll be walking with no time to read….Get well soon!!
