Surgery March 7

Feb 26, 2011

I've jumped through all the hoops and my gastric bypass is scheduled for Monday March 7. I'm currently on the two-week pre-op liquid diet. The first few days were rough for me. I commented to my S.O. that the first person who says that I'm taking the "easy way out" by having surgery to resolve my obesity will get a protein shake shoved down their throat, bottle included!

I'm on day 7 and still feel hunger frequently, but losing 6 pounds in that time gives me some motivation to continue. I attend the Cleveland Clinic's WLS support group where everyone said they were hungry during the pre-op diet, but not during the post-op. So I look forward to not being hungry all the time.

As for the shakes, I prefer Atkins Advantage over the others I've tried. I just wish there were more flavor options than chocolate and vanilla...some have strawberry, but those taste like the can they came in.

I'm very fortunate to have a wonderful team at the Cleveland Clinic helping me stay the course and for being so supportive. In the process I've learned who supports me and who doesn't. I'm long past the point of feeling anger or disappointment in those who can't support my decision. My focus is now on surrounding myself with supportive friends.

I hope those of you also in this process find it to be as positive an experience as I have up to this point.

Namaste:)
